The highlight of my 5-week trip in Japan
10.0I stayed for three nights at Hagurokan, which allowed plenty of time to climb the Dewa Sanzan, and to explore the village and its surroundings. Still, I wish I could have stayed longer. Mount Haguro has a special, peaceful energy. I enjoyed taking things at a slow pace, visiting the 5-storey pagoda a few times at different times of the day, and just enjoying the peaceful vibe – rather than travelling through quickly. The hosts were exceptionally helpful and friendly – they even gave me a ride to a garden / temple at a nearby village. The meals were served in separate traditional rooms for different quests, and the experience felt luxurious. The home-cooked food was diverse and exquisite, and it also accommodated my dietary needs, which meant a lot to me. If I get the chance to visit Mount Haguro in future, I'll definitelly stay at Hagurokan again. Being there was the highlight of my 5-week trip – the friendly hosts, the beautiful room, the bath, the food, the authenticity of the house, the lovely village, and the magic of Dewa Sanzan.

10.0I absolutely loved everything. I traveled a lot in Japan and this ryokan is exceptional. The service, the food, the place. I strongly recommend
