Excellent stay at this beautiful hotel with an exceptional garden

8.0

Beautiful building and garden. Everyone very welcoming but Jay, the waiter, was the best. He made our meal extra special as he was so personable and friendly. We had a few laughs together. The bedroom space was exceptional. I think we must have had one of the best rooms with Magnolia as we had dual aspect views over both gardens.

Technology. We lost wi-fi during the evening and television reception late night and morning.

Generally very pleasant with the exception of the points above raised with management

8.0

The staff were all very courteous and friendly. The location was great as were dinner and breakfast. The room was mostly lovely with noted exceptions

1. The bathroom floor was extremely slippery to the point of being dangerous, whether wearing footwear or in bare feet. Anyone not entirely steady on their feet could have suffered a nasty fall. it was as though a very slippery polish had been used. 2. The coffee machine in the room was very clogged meaning that it was very difficult to make a cup of coffee. 3. The television remote control was pretty well unusable as the markings had almost completely rubbed off. Considering the bill was well into four figures for one night and dinner, the above points should not have been left to visitors to raise with management, who whilst sympathetic made no gesture of goodwill.

Must return

The Gravetye is the personification of excellence in all aspects of hotelerie. The building is obviously part of what makes it special and it is well looked after. However the staff at all levels make it extra special. All members of staff are clearly trained to engage with clients in a natural manner. In the restaurant there are plenty of staff who know what they are doing and the kitchen delivers excellence. The semi a la carte menu works well. Wines very good selection by the glass.

Breakfast was not the finest with undercooked eggs and overcooked bacon. However service was faultless with plenty of sourdough and the only hotel to serve redbush tea on this trip. Very expensive but perfection costs money.
