6.0The nearest parking was a garage over half a mile away. From there, you have to lug your suitcases up and down a lot of steps to get to your room. I got lost several times trying to leave the property. The room was gorgeous, with a hot tub and sauna. But the smell of mildew was overwhelming. I guess it's to be expected in a cave, but it needs a dehumidifier. One night it was so bad that I was getting sick, so I actually slept outside on a bench. But the location was perfect, and the staff set me up with tours. Breakfast was okay, with eggs and bacon for the Americans.

10.0We had a lovely view from the front of our room to the center of Matera. Excellent room with spa. The front desk provided the hints where to go and what to do. Overall it was an excellent experience.

10.0Hotel In Pietra is a fantastic choice for visiting Matera. The entrance/lobby could not be more grandiose - it used to be the XIII century church of San Giovanni. I used room 1004, large, tastefully furnished, comfortable, and with probably the best balcony view over the old city. The staff is friendly and most helpful. I will certainly return.
