Overpriced 3 star hotel - definitely does not deserve 4 stars

The receptionist was lovely and very helpful. The location is beautiful. Parking is available.

− I had been looking forward to this stay because of the generally positive reviews, but unfortunately our experience did not meet the expectations I would normally associate with a four-star hotel. The décor is quierky at best, and our double room was quite dark. The ceiling lights appeared to have an intermittent fault, and the bedside lamps did not function properly. Air conditioning was especially important to us because I am pregnant. At the time of booking, the property appeared in searches filtered for air conditioning, although I later saw that the individual room description did not specifically state that our room had it. We were told that only certain rooms were air-conditioned. No alternative room was available, so the hotel provided a fan. Unfortunately, even on its lowest setting, it was extremely loud (50 decibel) and made sleeping difficult. We left the balcony door open instead, but this allowed insects into the room. We also found ants under the bed and in the bathroom, as well as what appeared to be a small area of mould behind the sink. The gym was dark, and the air conditioning either was not available or was not switched on. As I was unable to sleep properly, we decided to leave after the first night and requested a refund for the second. The initial discussion with the owner was - extremely - unpleasant. When I joined the conversation, he described me as aggressive, although the exchange was brief, and said that he would only speak to my husband. I found this dismissive and inappropriate. He ultimately agreed to refund the second night, which I appreciated. Breakfast was attractively presented, but it is not a buffet and the selection is fairly limited. We were told that an omelette was not available and that only scrambled eggs could be ordered. Overall, I found the hotel overpriced for the standard of the room and facilities. Based on our experience, it felt closer to a three-star property than a four-star hotel.
