A family oriented hotel or a night club ??????

6.0

We have just returned from The Wave Resort following our third holiday there. Previously we have recommended this holiday unreservedly, however our view has now changed and we are wondering whether we really want to return for the fourth time. The cleanliness throughout the property cannot be faulted, the food was slightly less appetising than previously, the staff were all pleasant and friendly particularly the Indonesian waiters/waitresses, the entertainment was more varied this year, the fountain show continues to be spectacular and the pools a lovely inviting temperature. One of the main reasons that we have returned to The Wave was that we have particularly enjoyed relaxing by the quiet Adults Only pool, and this is what we found for the first few days of this holiday. HOWEVER - it soon became apparent that there were several large, mainly single sex groups who completely ruined the ambiance. Not only were they extremely noisy, they played loud music through bluetooth speakers, they completely monopolised the popular areas like the jacuzzi and pool loungers where they were smoking and drinking whilst in the water. On one occasion one guest poured beer over his head whilst in the jacuzzi. This behaviour is NOT what we expected. In the UK groups of single sex guests are often not allowed on camp sites let alone 5* hotels! We were extremely disappointed. Twice in the week ‘pool parties’ were held which not only meant that ordinary paying guests could not use that area but were extremely noisy whilst they were running. We had been told beforehand that some building work had over run - but there was very little noise or disruption from them. Additionally the wedding on the Saturday was lovely and an interesting distraction - not disruptive at all. In the same vein a conference with many attendees was held which resulted in the restaurant being extremely crowded - it was difficult to find anywhere to sit to eat. Surely they could have been served food in the Conference Hall - as were the wedding guests?? We did complain about the anti social behaviour around the ‘quiet adult pool, which was acknowledged and an apology received - but, not once did we see the offending guests approached and be asked to moderate their behaviour.

5 star hotel and Staff

10.0

Arrival and First Impressions As with all my reviews, this one is entirely subjective and based on my personal experience. I hope it proves useful. I travelled to the Wave Resort as a solo traveller in May, and the trip began with a three-hour delay at Bourgas Airport due to the Giro d’Italia cycle race. As local roads were closed, this was outside the hotel’s control. The hotel is in a remote setting, tucked away from the main road and only a short drive from the airport. On arrival, check-in was quick and efficient, and a staff member kindly escorted me to my room with my luggage. Bedroom Although it was a standard room, it was spacious and well equipped. It included two queen-sized beds, a bathroom with a separate shower, a walk-in wardrobe with a complimentary safe, a minibar restocked daily, tea and coffee-making facilities, a virtual concierge for ordering room service, and a view over the fountains. Another welcome feature was the mosquito screen, which meant the balcony door could be left open without uninvited insects getting into the room. Dining Options The resort offers a wide range of dining options to suit different tastes and preferences. • One buffet restaurant • Three à la carte restaurants serving Bulgarian, Mediterranean, and Asian cuisine • A 24-hour bistro bar • An outdoor food court • A selection of bars, including the lobby bar, pool bar, cocktail bar, and beach bar Food Quality and Refreshments The food was excellent throughout my stay. Meals were consistently hot, fresh, and well presented, which made dining a real highlight of the resort. Drinks were available throughout the resort, including in the restaurants and bistro area. Most were international brands, although some carried an additional charge. Guests could also help themselves from drinks machines and large fridges stocked with chilled beverages. The bistro area also offered: • A selection of pastries, Yoghurts and fruit • A wide variety of sandwiches Gym and Spa Facilities The gym and spa include a sauna, a steam room, and a low-heat sauna . The indoor pool and aqua-tonic area were particularly impressive. For guests checking out at 11am, showers and changing facilities are also available, which is especially convenient before departure. Outdoor and Indoor Pool Areas The outdoor pool area is divided into two zones, giving guests a choice between relaxation and family-friendly activities. Adults can unwind in the adults-only area for guests aged 16 and over, while families can enjoy the semi-Olympic pool, the children’s pool, and the mini aquapark. Both outdoor and indoor heated pools are available, with water temperatures of up to 28°C. Facilities include: • A semi-Olympic outdoor pool • A children’s spray park • An indoor pool with separate areas for children and adults • A sun terrace • A cascade pool Service and Management The staff at this hotel were exceptional. Everyone I encountered worked extremely hard and was consistently friendly, professional, and helpful. Their efforts made a significant contribution to an enjoyable holiday. I was also impressed by how visible the management team was throughout the resort, regularly checking standards and engaging with guests. Final Thoughts Would I return? Absolutely—in a heartbeat. I would happily come back with my grandchildren, as the resort offers facilities to suit a wide range of ages, from 4 to 17. Thank you to all the wonderful, hard-working staff. Your efforts made the stay especially enjoyable, and you are a real credit to the hotel.

Clean,friendly staff,great food

10.0

The hotel is very remote but wow does it deliver a 5* service. They have thought of everything to make your stay great, the design is a u shape & really easy to navigate. 7 pools most of them heated, fantastic 24hour all inclusive never a shortage of food, drink etc. Mini fridge restocked daily with 2 beers,2 cokes,1 lemonade,2 small water,1 large water,2 nesquik chocolate snacks & 1 pack of pom bears,if you have used them obviously. The food was really good with a fabulous choice all day, they even have an amazing outdoor area from 1st June with lots of choice. The staff were 5* so polite & always smiling & very helpful. Very clean everywhere staff are constantly clearing away & cleaning all areas. The ladies that cleaned the foyer area had their work cut out with those rotating doors & all the glass. 24 hr snack bar,the sandwiches were delicious & really helped my snack attacks each evening 🤣,there is also little doughnuts, muffins, yoghurts & fruit available plus hot drinks, soft drinks, beer, wine. Overall an amazing place, with excellent staff that help make the wave a lovely pleasant clean place to stay. Thank you to each & everyone of you that made our stay memorable.

Best stay ever

10.0

I have just returned for a lovely 5 night stay for my Hen do - there was 12 of us in total. I will try to break it down into sections for you to make it simple. Reception: After being delayed we finally arrived at the hotel at 2:30 am. We arrived so late due to it taking two hours to get through passport control at bourgas Airport. there was a lovely lady on reception that greeted us with the warmest smile throughout the whole checking in process and this was done swiftly and promptly. A lovely guy took all our cases all to our rooms and then we met in the bistro for a little Schnacky Schnack before heading to bed at 3am. Rooms: Most of our group had the standard rooms which were lovely one of our party was upgraded to a lagoon room and I had the premium family room with two bedrooms so me and my auntie had our own bedroom which benefited for us as she like the Aircon and I don’t this room was situated in the middle part of the building which looked over the fountains and we could see the beach and see which was amazing. Cleaned every day and mini bar stocked 🙂 Restaurant: Now this is the bit that I always panic about as I am the most fussiest eater you could possibly imagine but out of all the five star restaurants that I have stayed in this by far had the best all-inclusive section of food ever. There was a variety of food every night chicken pork fish even the vegetarian in our group said the variety of food was amazing and the best they had ever had. The children’s section of food only opened on June 1 which again had a really good selection of pasta, soup and everything none of us went hungry and the only gripe of the restaurant is that people seem to have forgotten how to queue 😮 Bistro: This was an absolute godsend arriving so late we were able to go down and get something to eat before we headed to bed but they did a variety of sandwiches children’s food muffins desserts there was also toaster if you wanted to toast your sandwiches you could l, yoghurt there was a lot to eat and I think this was an amazing addition to the hotel because People arriving late. The first thing they want to do is have something to eat. It definitely didn’t disappoint Outdoor eateries: these opened on the 1st of June and they had an amazing selection of food from pasta, pizza, wraps (chicken gyros were incredible) They also had an amazing selection of desserts for the children pancakes popcorn doughnuts and there was also a bar. This is a great addition if you don’t want to eat in the restaurant for dinner and you just wanna eat on you some bed this is a great touch. Pools: Now as there was 12 of us and we didn’t have children we stayed around the adult pool. The temperature of the pool was absolutely amazing. It was lovely and warm and made you actually want to spend most of your time in there. We did do aqua aerobics in the Olympic pool which again was heated. That was also really good. Some of the other girls did go in the other pool and they did said it was amazing when the temperature hits 26° and they needed to cool down so yes it is cold but sometimes that is what you need when the weather has been amazing. Now being in the adults only pool we noticed at the same time every day a certain amount of people came to the pool with Bluetooth speakers and was blaring music out which was not good for us and everybody else that wanted to relax. We kind of just let it go and dealt with it, but the day that we were leaving it looked as though quite a lot of people had complained and the concierge staff did come with the lifeguards and told them all to turn it off otherwise they’d be told to leave because it is against the rules. They are also drinking their own alcohol and being very rowdy in the pool which when you want to relax isn’t good but the hotel staff did deal with this promptly. Slides and splash park was open during our stay the kids seemed to love it! Weather: This was one thing that had the majority of our group worried as we were coming from the 29th of May until the 3rd of June now when the weather app says it’s raining everyone needs to remember it doesn’t rain all day we tended to have sun from about 8 o’clock until 3 o’clock and then that’s when the storm came which was great because it made it even hotter for the next day, so yes we did have storms but it was during the last part of the day and we did have sunshine that reached like 26 every single day which we were thankful for as we were only there for a short period of time.. Now with every hotel I do believe there are room for improvement so these are personally the things that if I was to go again would either take myself or would hope to see in place Coffee machine: Every room has an Nespresso machine there was no instructions on how to use this and to be honest I’m just an instant coffee drinker so when I realised I had no idea how to use the machine I even tried to google it and I still didn’t get the answer so we thought we would head to the on-site shop to get some coffee to have a nice coffee in the morning in the room but the shop did not sell coffee . So if I was to come again, I would definitely bring my coffee from home again. This will not be an issue for most people, but that is just my opinion. Water: The next thing that I would bring with me if I came again was flavoured water now I don’t know if this is a Bulgarian thing as most shops I went into didn’t sell it but if like me you don’t like original water and the only source of water you will drink is flavoured. I would bring this with you now we did go to the gym one day that did sell the vitamin flavoured water so you guessed it that is exactly where I went every day just a source some flavoured water to keep myself hydrated. It is a part of the all-inclusive and it is just in the fridge in the Gym. We did check the on-site shop but again it didn’t sell flavoured water just standard water so if anybody like me does need some flavoured water you are best heading to the gym and getting the vitamin flavoured water. I can’t wait to come back because it was an amazing stay we did go to Sunny Beach again for the day at the hotel arranged two taxis for us and it was €100 in total which was well worth it. I also wanna to say a massive thank you to Janina for organising the champagne on my friends room - I didn’t get one even thought I asked but I wasn’t that bothered about it as long as she had hers. Nina is always on hand if you need anything and she’s a breath of fresh air :)

Ok hotel but lifeguards need firing!

6.0

We have just returned from 4 nights at this hotel. I think given we arrived at the end of May, a lot of the facilities were not yet in use. Building work was continuing at the beach area however it wasn't noisy at all so that was fine. However, the big slides never opened the entire time we were there and another guest told me this was because there was no lifeguard and people had complained. At the small slide area, there was also no lifeguard which was not great considering the slides are in a loop and so I had to keep running around the loop to check my kids were ok getting onto the slides and then run back around to check they were ok. As it got busier kids were banging into each other all over the place as there was no one to check kids were getting off the slide at the end before the next one went. It was fine but I probably wouldn't have been as on edge had there been a lifeguard around. And further to that, the lifeguards that were in attendance at the other pools were an absolute joke. None of them sit on their chair, they all strip off and sunbathe... playing on their phones, sleeping even. We took photos to show our travel agent. One of the older lifeguards literally spent an entire morning checking his tan!!! It became comical how pointless they were! However, had there been an incident, I am terrified what would have happened. One female lifeguard had an entire leg cast on!!!! The food at this hotel was ok, just what you would expect really but given the all day food booths around the pool didn't open until 1 June, the lunch time slot could have been longer as it was 12-2 which when you have small kids isn't ideal. I am not a picky person when it comes to hotels but this review felt necessary. I hope the hotel sees this and reviews their pool staff. All the other staff seemed so miserable too, it looked and felt like the asian staff were inferior to the local staff. That wasn't very nice to see. On a positive the kids club lady was so lovely to my kids. They didnt go into kids club but she always took time out to say hello to them and they really loved that. My 3 year old also took part in her aqua aerobics class which was hilarious. The hotel itself is huge, the gym looked great if you use gyms and the indoor pool when it rained was a bonus although it was packed the day we left. All in all this hotel is ok. Not worth the money we paid and I wouldn't stay again but it was alright.

Honest review of a very enjoyable stay & practical tips for future guests

10.0

We returned home on Thursday after a very enjoyable stay and wanted to share some feedback for future guests. Arrival and check-in were smooth and straightforward, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our holiday. One day we took a walk to Pomorie. It is quite a long walk and took us around an hour and 20 minutes. You can walk along the beach, which would probably take longer due to the terrain, but there is also a pleasant side path. It is slightly overgrown in places, so be mindful of horseflies, but we found the walk enjoyable, especially on a cool and overcast day. Pomorie itself was nice to visit, although as it was out of season, not a great deal was open. It was still a good opportunity to experience a little more of Bulgaria. On our next visit, which we will definitely make, we would probably hire a car and explore some more of the surrounding areas. As others have mentioned, the hotel is quite remote, so having access to transport is useful if you want to travel further afield. Although there is a free shuttle buss to Pomorie. The Spa was a brilliant addition to our holiday. My two daughters, aged 9 and 13, both thoroughly enjoyed it, we all had lovely massages. My daughter had her hair braided, and I also treated myself to a manicure. All of the staff and facilities were excellent. There was a sauna, a steam room and a low-heat sauna that the children were able to use. The indoor pool and aqua tonic area were fantastic. As we had a very late flight on our final day, we spent most of the day in the Spa, which was perfect. There are also showers and changing facilities available for guests who have checked out of their room at 11am. Our room was comfortable, clean and well maintained. Beds were not squeaky as mentioned in another review. One useful tip for future guests is that the rooms use two-pin adapters only and do not have USB charging sockets, so be sure to bring your own charging adapter. The balcony was spacious, well maintained and a lovely place to sit and relax. We particularly enjoyed watching the house martins swooping around catching insects each morning and evening. Another feature we appreciated was the full sliding mosquito screen on the balcony door, which allowed us to leave the door open and enjoy the fresh air without worrying about insects entering the room. There is good aircon. The food was excellent throughout our stay. Everything was consistently hot, fresh and well presented, and we genuinely had no complaints at all. Much of the food was freshly prepared in front of guests, and it was clear that food safety standards were taken seriously. Staff were regularly checking temperatures, and there always seemed to be team members monitoring and maintaining the buffet areas. There was also occasionally a slight language barrier when speaking with chefs at the live cooking stations, particularly when requesting simple variations such as plain pasta or a pizza without cheese. We found it helpful to use translation tools on our phone to communicate more clearly, which made things much easier. During busy periods at bars and food stations, we occasionally noticed inconsistency in queueing behaviour, with some guests not following an orderly queue. This could sometimes cause confusion or delays, particularly at peak times. Most guests were patient and respectful, but the flow was not always well maintained when it was busiest. The hotel itself was kept very clean. There were plenty of cleaners visible throughout the day, and we often saw management walking around the resort checking standards and speaking with guests. In addition to the main restaurant, which was open daily and offered a wide variety of food, there was also a snack bar available. This provided coffee, alcoholic drinks, help-yourself sandwiches, a toastie machine, milk and baby items, fruit, cakes and other snacks throughout the day. There were also two à la carte restaurants that all-inclusive guests could book once during a week’s stay. The outside bar was another nice touch, with a freezer stocked with ice creams and ice lollies. As it was still out of season, the entertainment took place in the indoor conference room, which was perfectly adequate. The entertainment itself was fairly average, but we imagine that once the season begins on 1st June, it will move, weather permitting, to the outdoor amphitheatre. This would provide a much better setting and should enhance the overall experience. Some of the pools were pleasantly warm, while others were noticeably cooler. If you enjoy spending long periods relaxing in the pool, it may be worth bringing a lilo or inflatable from home, as they are considerably cheaper than purchasing them from the hotel shop. One point English visitors may wish to note is that there were no English TV channels available. This wasn’t a major issue for us as we were on holiday, but if you like having the television on while getting ready in the evenings, you may wish to bring a Fire Stick, although we cannot confirm whether one works at the resort. The staff at this hotel were exceptional in our opinion. Every member of staff we encountered worked incredibly hard and was friendly, professional and helpful. Their efforts played a huge part in making our holiday so enjoyable. We were also impressed by how visible the management team were around the resort, regularly checking standards and engaging with guests. Overall, we had a lovely holiday, enjoyed the facilities, appreciated the high standards of cleanliness and food quality, and would happily return.
