A Beautiful Farmstay with Kind Hosts – Just Not the Farm Experience I Came For

I stayed at Viet Mekong Farmstay for 3 nights as a solo traveller and came looking for an authentic farm experience in the Mekong Delta. The farm itself is peaceful, rustic and surrounded by beautiful orchards and gardens. I especially loved sitting outside in the evenings listening to the frogs, birds and insects. The room and gardens were exactly as shown in the photos. The two sons who looked after me were incredibly kind, polite and always smiling. They were happy to help with anything I needed, including organising my visit to the nearby national park. The homemade dinners were delicious, and the complimentary lotus tea was a lovely local touch that I really appreciated. The dinners were amazing.

− The reason I'm not giving a higher rating is that the farm experience shown in the advertising didn't match my experience as a solo traveller. The website and social media feature guests gathered around generous shared meals, wearing traditional farming clothes, walking through the water lilies, cooking, and interacting with the water buffalo. Those photos were a big reason I chose to stay here. Unfortunately, I was told many of these experiences are only available for larger groups. The large food spreads shown in the photos also appear to be for groups rather than solo guests. The buffalo spent most of my stay grazing some distance away and was only brought closer on the morning I was leaving, so I never had the chance to interact with it. Breakfast on my first morning was also quite basic—a bread roll and a fried egg. Overall, this is a peaceful place with genuinely kind hosts, beautiful surroundings and delicious home-cooked dinners. I would happily recommend it to travellers wanting a quiet rural escape. My only suggestion would be to make it clearer on the website and social media which activities and experiences are available to solo travellers and which are designed for larger groups. I think that would help future guests arrive with expectations that match the experience and avoid the disappointment I felt.

An amazing place to stay. We learnt so much about traditional cooking and farming techniques. The staff were very kind and the meals were all 5 star.

An amazing place to stay! Beautiful organic family-run farm. Duy and Long took great care of us! And it’s close to Tram Chim national park and some great birdwatching. If you want to experience the Mekong Delta region outside of Can Tho in a beautiful rural setting, I definitely recommend this place.

An incredible place run by a very sweet family! I’ve been in Vietnam once before and this place is definitely my favorite place I’ve stayed. I biked through rice fields, learned a great deal about Vietnamese farming, and went birdwatching at nearby Tram Chim national park. It’s beautiful, rural, and mellow. Duey and Long took great care of us and were very generous with their time and information. The food was delicious. Highly recommend!
