A wonderful home stay!

We loved staying at Sunrise Cafe, the view was beautiful, the beds were comfortable and had a big mozzie net, Nyoman was a fantastic host and his family cooked us so much amazing food. They had lovely pets and many many wonderful bonsai trees. We did the fishing and snorkelling trip with Nyoman, it was great value for money and we saw lots of fish, coral, turtles, rays and even a baby white tip reef shark. Sunrise wasn’t a fancy place but an authentic home stay that made us feel welcome and at home in Amed.

Great location and snorkeling, but poor cleanliness and service made it disappointing.

I stayed here for two weeks, which gave me a good impression of both the positives and the negatives. The best things were the beautiful sea view, being able to walk straight into the water for snorkeling, the comfortable bed, and the restaurant, which served good food.

− Unfortunately, staying here for more than a few days is difficult. My room was not cleaned during my stay, and I had to keep asking for toilet paper, which was often given reluctantly. After one week I asked to move rooms because I had a gecko, a cockroach, and a rat that kept running back and forth across my balcony. Fortunately, after moving to the other side of the building, I no longer had problems with the rat. I deliberately waited before writing this review so I could compare it with other places in Bali. Yes, this accommodation is extremely affordable, and I understand that the owners are doing their best. However, in my opinion it does not deserve the current 8.3 rating on Booking.com. I also discovered that the price they asked for their snorkeling trip was much higher than other providers in the area. Because the price is so low, I am giving it 5/10. Even so, it was a disappointing introduction to Bali for me.

The place is famous for catching the breathtaking sunrise right out of your bed or spacious balcony, and it's truly stunning. Very comfy bed with moskito net and functioning AC, which is necessary in the heat.

− The bathroom was just ok with a rather dodgy mat. It is a tiny room, especially for Bali's generous standards. The owners should consider providing accessible water refills for guests, payable if necessary - it's only 25k for 20 litres! I got some but had to buy extra plastic bottles.
