A bed for a couple of nights but had better

− Poor location, didn't feel safe as a lone female. Poor communication from host, didn't find out until that morning about £150 Refundable deposit that had to be paid before being given check in details. I had been asking for check in details since last week from the host, when they emailed reply about only giving check in details on morning of arrival they could have informed me then about deposit. Also I had to chase host whilst I was on the train to London as they still hadn't contacted me! I have hired apartments before from other hosts and communication and service was much better.

Nothing worth writing home about.

− Although there was an oven, there was not one utensil available, such as a baking tray, to use it. There was no kitchen hand towel. There was frost build-up that prevented the freezer door from being closed. The lamp on the bedside table was not sufficient to read by. There were only two hangers. The toilet seat was unsteady. This is not the place for a sleep-in as it was flooded with light as soon as the sun was up from the fanlight above the front door. I didn’t open the only window it as it would have let in noise from the busy road alongside it, which was also a bus route, and from the other guests entering and leaving the premises as it was directly by the front gate. I found it particularly difficult and claustrophobic not having any fresh air in the apartment for my entire stay The television remote had batteries that needed replacing. During my first shower I discovered that the cold-water feed handle would not turn and I therefore had to suffer a hot shower on a hot day. After a plumber attended it was established that the handle was indeed stuck and I had to make do with regulating any future showers from the boiler amounting to my having to traipse through the entire apartment if I wanted to change the temperature from what it had been pre-set at by the plumber. The host seemed to want to blame me for the shower situation as it had not been reported by the previous guest rather than questioning why the cleaner had not noticed it. She also did not seem that bothered when I informed her that I had found a sticky substance that had been left on the only table in the apartment prior to my checking in, which begs the question as to exactly what levels of cleaning are carried out between guests’ stays. I did not find the host easy to deal with. I had more issues to raise with her than I should have had in light of the price of my stay but her way of handling some of the concerns I raised with her was to be defensive and argumentative.

− This is down to booking.com not the venue but having to pay an unexpected deposit.
