Nice view but lacking indoors
6.0Nice view. Updated floors and bathroom. Well stocked spices, oils and vinegar. Hot water for showers. Sliding door blinds are easy to use. Sheets were soft. Easy access to the beach.
− No cupboards or drawers for clothes. Bed takes up the entire bedroom. Very small room. Need more hangers. Safe didn't work and no attempt was made to fix it. Bedroom AC not working as there was no remote. According to other comments, this has been like this for quite some time. Window slats and glass panels are old and don't keep out humidity and outside noises. No laundry facilities within the unit and outside laundry location is in a dingy alcove. For some reason the balcony gets no breeze and other than first thing in the morning, it's too hot to sit outside. The sliding screen door is off it's track and I had to just leave it half open. Several cabinet doors are falling off and could be easily fixed with a screwdriver. It's the little things that could show more care. My friend slept on the pull out sofa and there was a pretty bad stain on the mattress that made you not want to sleep on it. The detergent used for the bedding is very strong and it made my eyes itch at night. I had to rinse the pillowcases in clear water to lessen the smell. Would suggest using a non scented detergent. Many people are sensitive to perfumes. If you don't have a car, you aren't near shopping for any fresh produce. My friend and I had just come from six days at an amazing resort on the east side of Kauai. It was double the space and $20 less per night.
The price (close to $400/night) was overpriced for what we received.
6.0The view became more exceptional as we noticed more things happening in the bay: outrigger canoe and regular canoe races, sailboat races, surfers, foil (motorized surfboard) surfers, beach volleyball games, and large cruise ships (two during the week we were there). This location is in the flight path of the helicopter excursions to Kauai’s highlights so expect noise in the morning. No worries about being awakened by them. The roosters which are everywhere on the island will awaken you much earlier than when the helicopters begin flying. The unit has been partially upgraded within the past few years so that the kitchen seemed more modern than the rest of the unit although there was NO dishwasher. There were lots of spices and condiments (including olive and sesame oil, soy sauce, and honey), rice, and oatmeal. The shower stall was nicely tiled and the “wood” floor relatively new. The windows/doors looking out onto the patio were relatively new (mini blinds inside double pane glass).
− While part of the unit had been upgraded in the recent past, the rest of it was in dire need of upgrading, including the furnishings both inside and on the deck. The A/C (one wall unit in the main area and one in the bedroom) control worked for only one of the units. The bedroom unit remained set at 24 degrees C (about 75 degrees F) during our stay. If there was a separate control for this unit, it was not to be seen anywhere. Moving the screen door risked derailing it, so we left it half open/closed during our stay. While there were lots of dishes (12 large plates and 12 bowls), there was only one wine glass, two martini glasses, two tall glasses, three shorter drinking glasses, and many very short glasses. The bottom left drawer in the bathroom was completely off the pull-out guides, so could be considered dangerous if one tried to open it with bare feet underneath. The bathroom cabinets were poorly constructed as the other drawers were not easy to open. The cleanliness of the unit could be improved by cleaning the top of the floor baseboards and backsplash above the kitchen and bathroom counters. The general cleanliness of vertical surfaces was deficient.
