Extraordinary city, property could do with a refresh

Of course being in Venice is fabulous. The property is less than 10 minutes walk from each of the train station and the bus station - with luggage, the value of this should not be underestimated. The neighbourhood is quiet with an excellent restaurant on the street. The apartment and its rooms are reasonably sized, if a bit quirky. The main bathroom is nicely done. The way to collect the keys is a bit complicated, but it works, and you get used to the four keys needed to enter the property.

− While accepting that everything is old in Venice, the property is a bit tired and needs a refresh (as I point out in other reviews, we are paying for the property, not the city, and set our expectations accordingly). There are no nice views, the "garden" is a building site at present. I did not appreciate to be contacted afterwards by the host seeking "an all 10 star review" and "if not...please don't write your review". This is gaming the system and undermines trust in booking.com reviews.

Great location, very quiet, two bathrooms, close to the station.

− There were works going on in the inner courtyard due to a problem in another apartment which affected being able to open the window in the big bedroom. The problem will be fixed soon so will be no problem for future guests, we were assured by the owner.

It was a great find. Would recommend to friends.

Good location. Lovely apartment. Wonderful bedroom bathroom and sitting room and kitchen. Host was very easy to work with.

A convenient and spacious stay with friendly communication, but some cleanliness and maintenance issues

We had a pleasant stay overall. The apartment was spacious, in a good location and conveniently close to a supermarket for essentials. The washing facilities were also very useful. Our host was communicative and available throughout our stay, and we really appreciated being able to check in early and check out later than scheduled. Overall, the apartment has many positives, particularly its size, location, facilities and the host’s communication. With some improvements to cleanliness, maintenance, the accuracy of the listed location and the approach to guest feedback, it could be a much better experience.

− After collecting the keys, we found that the location shown on both Google Maps and Booking.com differed from the actual location of the apartment, which was quite misleading and made finding the property more difficult than expected, and with luggage. Unfortunately, the apartment was not as clean as we expected, with an unpleasant odour in the bedroom and bathroom on arrival, a shower that needed more cleaning, and dust and staining on the bed cover. The air conditioning worked well, but the units themselves appeared quite dusty and had some areas that looked like mould. We were also disturbed during our stay by construction, fire extinguisher changes and water meter maintenance. While we understand some of this may have been outside the host’s control, it was inconvenient while we were trying to enjoy our time sightseeing. We were disappointed to be asked at check-out to leave a 10-star review or not leave a review at all. We believe guests should be able to leave honest and balanced feedback. We were also asked for a tip for the cleaners, which felt uncomfortable given the cleanliness issues we experienced.

It was fine as we were only there a short time.

The location was good for walking to various sites and getting to the airport.

− It required 4 keys to get into the apartment. Two of the doors only operated with a key which is very unsafe in case of an emergency. We could leave one key in the door to our apartment, but there was a second door that could only be opened with a key and we didn't feel safe locking it. The photos of the apartment are not accurate - some of the pictures appear to be older or taking of some other place. They should be updated or eliminated.
