Room in a shared apartment sold as an apartment.
3.0The location is good, quiet and parking is easy. The room itself was large and comfortable
− Our main complaint is that the rental was very clearly sold as a self contained apartment with the rental described as an "apartment", "whole apartment" with "private bathroom" etc. In reality we had a large room inside the owner's parents apartment. When we arrived it was obvious that the kitchen and toilet were to be shared (a small space was left for us in the fridge!) although after complaining we did seem to get exclusive use. Access to both the kitchen and toilet was in any case through an area used by the owner's parents which meant we didn't use the cooking facilities and had to dress to go the toilet in the night. The owner's parents did try to stay out of our way after they had cleared the kitchen and toilet of their things, but under the circumstances living in the flat of the parents of the owner was not a relaxing holiday experience and we basically just used the room for sleeping. The owner offered no apology, but did offer us the opportunity to cancel. At that time in the middle of the high season, no alternatives were available so this was not a realistic option given that we were also on holiday with family staying in other nearby accommodation in Orebić. We requested some rebate based on what must have been a deliberate misrepresentation of the accommodation but the request was declined by the owner and is now the subject of a formal complaint to Booking.com. After renting dozens of apartments through booking.com over the last 10 years or so, mostly in Croatia, this is the first time we have experienced anything like this. We are waiting with interest to see what response we get from Booking.com because incidents like this seriously undermine one's faith in the platform if no action is taken. We have full documentation of the misdescription and it is indisputable. Finally it is fair to mention that our experience may not be representative of other Alma apartments.
