The Roost

A very enjoyable stay

The Roost is a very nice flat in house with two flats. The apartment has everything you need for a relaxing vacation and is situated in the middle of the town. There's even some games and books. We enjoyed having breakfast at the kitchen table (a second higher chair would have been great) and watching the people walk by :) There's all kinds of shops nearby - so not problem geeting food, beach stuff, or a hair cut. Another nice thing is that one of the two town pubs is just across the small side road. We often hopped over for a cider or beer in the evening after a long day of walking along the Jurassic coast or the river Otter. Parking can be a bit of an issue as there are only a few 2-hour parking slots at the street. The info page for the flat mentions the long-stay parking lot at the end of the beach (Lime Kiln), but that's quite a bit to walk when you're carrying something. There's another long-stay car park just 3 minutes away behind the town hall which we found much more accomodating. It's much smaller but we always found a place. There's a free car park just beside it but that is usually full.

Great location and a perfect seaside base for adults.

The location was just what we needed - close to the seafront and the highstreet. The apartment was exactly as expected, but we were not prepared for the stairs into the property. These were really steep with an infant, and I think this apartment should be clearly sold as 'not kid friendly', or for those with mobility issues. Getting our suitcases up the stairs was hard work! Otherwise the apartment was very clean and the hosts were very helpful and responsive.
