Very misleading reference on the booking site.
3.0We wanted to stay in Harlem for a new experience which is was. Close to restaurants that matched our cultural expectations.Although it was far from what we anticipated based on photos and reviews, it was a place to got to bed. The host Michael was very sweet.
− Disappointing and Misleading — Not What We Expected We were very surprised and disappointed with our choice of accommodation, especially after booking based on the photographs and reviews. Unfortunately, very few of the photographs accurately represented what we found upon arrival. While our basement bedroom was as pictured, the other rooms, hallways, garden views, and bathrooms shown in the listing were nowhere to be seen. We found this very misleading, as the photographs certainly influenced our decision to book. The entrance hallway was extremely cluttered, as was the room to the right, which was filled with clothing and furniture. Another room leading off our bedroom was open and similarly cluttered. None of this reflected the impression created by the listing. On a positive note, our host was sweet and had kindly agreed to accept our luggage early. However, when we arrived, there was no response to the doorbell or the telephone number provided in the listing. We ended up sitting on the curb until an Amazon delivery arrived. When we eventually made contact, we were given another telephone number, which also went unanswered. We were never provided with the Wi-Fi password. Our bedroom, although small, was clean, but the towels were very old and thin, and we were left with only half a roll of toilet paper. We travel extensively and stay in a wide variety of accommodations, from simple to cultural. We certainly don't expect perfection, and we are very adaptable. As the accommodation felt safe and our room was clean, we simply made the best of our stay. I genuinely dislike leaving a negative review, but I also believe reviews should help future guests make informed decisions. My greatest disappointment was not the simplicity of the accommodation, but how different the reality was from the photographs and expectations created by the listing. I hope the host will consider updating the photographs to accurately reflect what guests can expect.
My first trip to New York, and staying at the townhouse, was a great way to kick it off.
