It was good value for money

− It is a bit noisy, the noise from other units travels. We had neighbors downstairs that partied very loud. We gad to fetch the security twice, and they eventually settled down at 02:00.

Charming, clean, beautiful home away from home with power issues.

Accessing the property was easy and stress-free. The keys were conveniently placed on the counter, and informing the host of my arrival made the process even smoother. The overall aesthetics and atmosphere of the property were warm and welcoming. It boasts a sleek, modern design, which might be a bit challenging for some to navigate, but it worked well for my family. For instance, the glass touch stove hob added a stylish yet functional touch. The pool was fantastic, and the easy access to the beach was a delightful bonus. Additionally, the Boardwalk Mall is just a short distance away, making the location incredibly convenient. The property was well-stocked with ample bedding, towels, and other essentials. The kitchen facilities were excellent, with modern appliances like an oven that doubles as a microwave—provided you know how to use it. A washing machine with a wash-and-dry function and a dishwasher were also available, though I couldn't make full use of them for reasons I'll explain later. Overall, this property is charming, impeccably clean, and finished with a modern touch. It feels comfortable and inviting, truly a home away from home.

− Unfortunately, the chronic power cuts and ongoing maintenance by the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality significantly impacted what could have been a perfect 10/10 stay for my family and me. Day 1 started well, aside from a minor issue with the shower leaking. However, I raised this with the host, and a handyman promptly came to assess and partially resolve the problem, which I appreciated. The next three days, however, were a challenge due to prolonged power outages and maintenance disruptions. While the unit was somewhat prepared for such situations, with two rechargeable lights, a portable camping gas stove, and rechargeable globes fitted to the lampshades in the main bedroom, these measures were only partial solutions. One of the biggest challenges was the freezer, which remained locked during power outages. The mechanism requires electricity to release the door when pressed, leaving it completely inaccessible. The fridge door was also difficult to open, adding to the inconvenience. I’m unsure if this is a recurring issue in Summerstrand or if I was just unlucky during my stay. However, dealing with such disruptions on a family holiday—especially with kids—was exhausting and far from ideal. That said, I truly love this apartment and Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha as a destination. However, going forward, I’ll need to prioritize accommodations with robust backup power systems to avoid similar frustrations. The persistent issues with the municipality’s power management could deter tourism and tarnish the appeal of this otherwise wonderful area.
