Spacious, but needs some TLC

The apartment entrance was a little difficult to find as it is quietly sandwiched between bustling shops and vendors on a busy street, but this challenge is easily overcome if you message the owner through whatsapp and keep him up to date on your arrival time. He met us at the street and led us inside for a friendly tour. The apartment is very big with lots of room in the living and dining areas - great for families or groups. The beautiful large stone dining table seats 4, but there is also a breakfast bar with 4 stools. Two King beds in one bedroom and two full beds in the other. The sheets were crisp and clean. Two full bathrooms. The apartment remained nice and cool even when it was a bit warm outside (80° in December). Laundry room with a washer, sink, and lines to hang clothes. I didn't use the washer, but I did hang up my clothes and towel after swimming each day. The area was not in the official city center, but the area was safe, a few blocks from the bus station, and surrounded by shops and vendors, and flea markets. Street food and some restaurants were nearby. It was very active and loud during the day, but quiet after 10 or 11pm. Only two apartments comprise this unit. This one and the apartment above.

The apartment did not seem as if it had been used in quite a while and was in need of a deep clean; yet, at the same time, there were signs that someone had been staying there recently - an empty bottle of wine on the counter, some dried up ginger or some root, an empty cup-of-noodles in the trash, some hair in the shower drain...🤷🏼‍♀️ Either someone lives there and just surface-cleaned the counters before leaving, or the person who was hired to clean the apartment...didn't. I am very familiar with houses in San Luis Potosi, and I know they often have open-air patios and terraces, and windows without screens, so dust, dirt, and some debris are commonplace throughout the house...but the floor was downright grimy, leaving the bottoms of my socks black. The walls were in desperate need of fresh paint, and the edges where the walls met the floors were highlighted by black marks, stains, cobwebs, small dead bugs, and a one inch border of dirt. I'm not a neat freak by any means, but... at almost $100/night, the floors should have been mopped. * To be clear, we did not see any live bugs of any kind during our 3 day stay. The king beds had hard futon mattresses, and the full beds were already molded to two sleepers with a high "hump" in the middle of the mattress. It wasn't a horrible mattress, but it kind of forced me to sleep in one position. One thin comforter was provided for each bed. In December, it wasn't cold enough to need a heater (there wasn't one, anyway), but a thin blanket would've been nice in the early morning hours. Each bedroom had a nightstand, and the guest bedroom had a small couch. There weren't any shelves or closets to put things / hang clothes. The top half of the guest bedroom door is glass and faces the living room and front door, limiting the privacy of whoever stays in that room, particularly the person who stays in the bed in front of the door.
