Could have been so good if someone had just checked the heating system was working
1.0The heating didn't work and it was freezing. I have sent the following to booking.com 7 times and no response "I wrote to you shortly after our stay at the Black Bull in Appleby. It seems a shame to have to repeat myself but in brief it was the coldest night of the year so far and the heating didn't work. They sent a plumber who said the heating needed a full overhaul.. They then provided two oil filled radiators to heat 13 large rooms and all over the weekend of my mothers' 100th birthday celebrations. We were freezing and believe that we are due some form of recompense for the intense discomfort and disappointment. "

6.0The location was good in the centre of town. The space in the house. Beautiful old furniture and plenty of kitchen equipment. Everything worked.
− On the surface, the house was clean. However, if you moved anything, it was obvious that the house needed a deep clean. For example, behind the bedside table, it had not been cleaned for some time. With huge amounts of dust and rubbish left by other guests not removed. Light bulbs needed replacing in a number of lamps. The garden areas were very overgrown and dirty with cigarette ends from previous guests not removed. There were no mattress or pillow protectors on the beds. Overall, the house needed some TLC.
