9.0Gorgeous, cozy traditional house overlooking Hydra harbor. Our host could not do enough for us. He organized our mule transfers for our luggage up and down the hill, gave us freebies and generous discounts in his restaurant/cafe at the port. Fantastic communication. The house itself is homely and oh so comfortable. I felt like I was in my own home. Lovely views out the windows and cozy courtyard with views on one side to the harbor. Great amenities and cooking facilities.
− The walk is steep and not for the unfit or elderly. There is a minimart close by but eating out is a walk down (and back up!) the hill. Over 300 steps. You could organize a taxi mule (no cars or bikes on Hydra) if you are happy to jump on and be lead. The swimming is off the rocks with ladders in and out. There is a beach around the corner from the port but the rock swimming is nicer. You could catch a water taxi to wherever from the port, however it was the end of our 10 week trip and we just wanted to chill. Hydra is extremely expensive shopping, actually ridiculously so for clothes. We had been to other Greek islands and usually managed to find at least one or two reasonably priced shops. Not on Hydra. The jewellery was nice and probably fair but the clothes were usually €120-€200 for the same dress I could buy in Italy for €20-€30. This was disappointing..... shout out to retailers in Hydra, if one of you did get on board with fair pricing, you'd make a lot of money....even a market stall.
