Beautiful spot to escape to

Fantastic location in the middle of a Roman fort and the perfect "get away from it all" location. Ideal for exploring borders and making use of facilities at Kielder Water. Cottage very well appointed with lots of lovely touches, including a delicious hone baked cake on arrival. Enclosed, very beautiful garden ideal for dog. Thanks to the lovely neighbours for their hospitality too.

Mostly cloudy so we couldn't take advantage of the dark skies sadly!

Wonderful relaxing retreat in a cosy and delightful cottage in a beautiful location.

Roman Cottage is in a beautiful and quiet location. The cottage is cosy, tasteful and really well equipped. The hosts were easily contactable to help with any queries and the surprise of a delicious cake on arrival was so welcome. We would love to go back there.

if you need a big bath of silence, nature and comfort,

The cottage is situated at the end of a small road at an angle with another longer building. It has a private entry and a sunny garden offering a lot of privacy. The view is magnificent and opens on rolling hills and fields and sheeps. This is an old cottage that has been renovated and re-designed inside yet keeping old fashion features and feel. It has a kitchen and open to living space including a wood burner which is great for the chilly evenings even at the beginning of September when the sun was shining. it was preloaded when we arrived. this there is a large bedroom at the same level with en suite bathroom, perfect for disabled people. The bed is large and the blanket very warm, so no need for electric blankets The he property is managed by professionals and it was very pleasant to interact with them. When we arrive there was and milk butter, tea, coffee and a very large home-made toffee cake and flowers. there was even ingredients for an emergency dinner. We felt very welcome. The house is comfortable, incredibly quiet, surrounded by acres and acres of nature-fields, walks, forest. the Hadrian wall is 45 min away and is worth the visit. We loved it. was very relaxing Wifi works very well. Garden table and chairs even several pairs of boots available to use...can be quite wet.

Nothing serious -Quite far from a supply supermarket. -We could not make the coffee machine to function -The house could become damp without the central heating. -The two smalls sofa were not super comfy. -THe working space in the kitchen are in solid oak that cannot be wet. tops are provided to prevent damages, but it is not super practical.

Stunning location, lovely cottage and wonderful hosts. Faultless stay!

10.0

We had a lovely week in this stunning location in a beautiful county. The cottage is well placed for walks out of the door and easy to drive to many fabulous locations. The cottage itself is fantastic, one of the best we've stayed in. Comfortable bedrooms, a cosy sitting/living room and the little kitchen is very cleverly designed and wonderfully well-equipped. Communication with the hosts was top class even though they weren't on site. Clear instructions in advance and Mary checked in on us once we arrived to check everything was ok and to answer any questions. The neighbours were also friendly and helpful as we worked out where best to park. Oh and there was the most delicious cake waiting for us when we got there, along with milk/butter, tea and coffee etc. Mary really does go above and beyond!

Honestly, we couldn't think of anything to improve this terrific place. As booking.com insists on 2-3 sentences, we'll note that some of the kitchen utensils are cleverly hidden but there are signs in the kitchen telling you where everything is :-)
