Excellent location, very quiet despite being in a main road. The flat was very clean. We had a minor problem with the hot water, and the owner was very helpful.

Clean but basic with dangerously uneven floors if you're unsteady on your feet.

5.0

Firstly, the plus points: the apartment is clean, the beds and furniture are comfortable and it's located very conveniently in the centre of Kendal, so it's easy to get around (do keep in mind though, that you're on the main road, so there is road noise in the front bedroom). It's about 15 minutes walk from the railway station and there are plenty of buses. Although it strikes chilly and damp when you go in (it's an old building), the electric convection heaters do a good job of warming it up quickly. There's a decent shower over the bath, and plenty of hot water.

The less good things: I don't want to be too negative - the apartment is okay, and I would stay there again, however recommending it would have to be qualified by saying that it's totally unsuitable for anyone who is a little bit unsteady on their feet. I don't just mean the elderly - a close relative has one leg shorter than the other due to a back problem and it would be dangerous for him. This is because not only do the floors slope, but they are extremely uneven - it would appear that the floorboards are collapsing. This is particularly bad in the main bedroom, where you walk downhill from the window to the door, drop into a hollow area and then effectively have to "climb" out of the doorway into the corridor, which has a camber to the right, while also sloping downhill. It's incredibly disconcerting because it's impossible to walk in a straight line - I don't drink, but I suspect this is how it feels to be drunk! Honestly, if you want to practise hill-walking in the dry, you could do it in this apartment! I know it's an old building but the floors could really do with being replaced. Due to the sloping floor, the beds are on a slope. I used the main bedroom and this was okay for me, as I was in the bed alone but if you are there as a couple, make sure that the lighter person is sleeping on the window side, which is the top of the slope, otherwise they will be crushed by the heavier person rolling down the hill in the night! The kitchen is lacking basics such as a bread knife, cheese grater and scissors and there's no clothes airer for wet clothes that can't go in the drier. Also, they don't supply any tea, coffee or milk, so don't expect to be able to make a drink when you first arrive, unless you take the makings with you (not so easy when you travel by train, as we did!

Nice town centre flat

7.0

Nice flat in nice location. Plenty of takeaways, restaurants and pubs nearby.

Lack of information about leaving. We like to leave how owners/cleaners like but had no info on where to leave bedding etc or where bins are for rubbish. It can be a bit noisy with traffic. Didn't bother us but it might do others. Few things that people will need to bring with them: tea towels (only one provided), pizza cutter, bin bags.

Fabulous flat and location

10.0

The location is excellent, really close to the shops and there's a bus stop just along the road. The bus service is great in Kendal, we travelled all over the lakes. The flat has everything we needed, it's our second time staying there, Bob who owns the apartment is really helpful, he was happy to talk and gave us some good advice. We are hoping to go back next year.

We loved everything, didn't find anything to dislike

The location, bedrooms and livingroom were wonderful.

the kitchen smelled musty. I think it was the bin or washer. the bathroom sink didn't drain.
