10.0Pleasant and beautiful place

Overall, a disappointing stay. Not value for money.
5.0Pooltiel View is a well-proportioned and spacious house in a remote area of Skye, with beautiful views over the Little Minch towards the adjoining headland.
− Pooltiel View could, in theory, very comfortably accommodate 8 people (we were a party of 7 adults). Sadly, the theory remains largely untested, as little thought appears to have been given to the comfort or convenience of the people who are actually paying for the use of the property - in our case, a hefty £3,640 for one week. Even allowing for end-of-season wear and tear, the house was disappointingly shabby. There are two 3-seater sofas in a house intended to accommodate 8. Chipped crockery, pans whose non-stickiness has long since become unstuck, insufficient towels for bathing, and a total absence of dish or tea cloths in the kitchen, add to the impression that the owners do not particularly care. Apart from a relatively new washing machine and tumble dryer, the furniture and appliances are mostly old and of questionable quality. The oven is difficult to operate as the indicators on the controls have rubbed off with use (and, as far as we could tell, the fan function on the main oven does not work). The beds and mattresses are all in need of replacement; on arrival we found that one bed base was actually broken, so that we had to place the mattress on the floor in order that the occupant could sleep with a degree of comfort. As a previous reviewer has noted, however, the boiler is located in a cupboard in the same bedroom, putting a stop to holiday lie-ins with early morning mechanical rumblings. Each bathroom features a blank wall space over the washbasin with a light above, the mirror which might otherwise appear there being inexplicably located on the door. I could go on… We have stayed in many different places on Skye over the years, and none has offered such dubious value for money as Pooltiel View. We were travelling with guests from Germany and South Africa and were, frankly, embarrassed by the standard of the property.

7.0Big house with lots of space and big living room. Beautiful location at the edge of the world with large windows to see the fog move into the bay in the evening. washing machine and dryer as well as dish washer available which is nice.
− The house comes with lots of facilities many of which are unfortunately getting old and should be replaced. Chairs in the dining room and couch are very uncomfy as you sit too low. Can opener fell apart while using it, knives are all blunt. Guests are expected to maintain appliances, we found the dish washer full on arrival and had to clean the dryer before we could use it. The ground floor bedroom on the left is unusable due to a very loud pump operating there and the beds in that room also need new mattresses.
All as described, great accommodation choice on Skye. View was superb
