9.0Traditional house in Downtown Mandraki with lovely sea views and monestry views from the terrace. Small enclosed courtyard garden at the front of the property. Terrace on first floor from the main bedroom. Kitchen fairly well equipped. Host was responsive. Bed comfortable. Fab island.
− Extra bin bags for rubbish and tea towel/hand towel in the kitchen

So much potential...
6.0There are so many charming elements to this house! For starters, the space! Set on two floors, it has an ample living room and kitchen, with an outdoor terrace as soon as you open the gate. The upstairs is also spacious with a room with two twin beds and a master with a queen. And obviously, the house’s piece de resistance and what gives it its name: the amazing terrace with views of the ocean and the monastery! It is set in such a quiet inner street that you can hear the gentle crash of the waves while sitting on the terrace. I am guessing that all doors and floors are original because when we walk and come up and down the stairs, the sounds evoke my grandma’s old house. Hard not to fall in love with it! The house has a downstairs and an upstairs bathroom, or what is known in Asia as a wet room, which means you have a toilet, sink and shower but the showers are not enclosed. It is a wet room because when you shower, well, everything gets wet. Both bedrooms (and the living room) have mini split A/C units, so you won’t have to sleep with the windows open if that is not your preference. A special shout out must be given to Popi, the property manager, who goes out of her way to help and support you! She drove us to the accommodation and explained how the island operates. She was also helpful and responsive when we had questions! All in all, I recommend Nisyros views, but come with eyes open because you will be paying for space and charm but not necessarily detail and comfort. Thank goodness the town and its people make up for it!
− In the case of Nisyros views, unfortunately, charming is not synonym of practical. There are many things that will make you frown and that could be solved with a minimum of attention to detail. For starters, there is not a single shelf in the bathrooms where to deposit your toiletries (consistent with the concept of wet rooms, but, heard of plastic anyone?). There are no extra pillows, blankets, sheets or towels. What you get is what there is! Thank goodness for the working washing machine! The kitchen is basic but sufficient for making breakfast. There is a panini press and a full Nespresso, including a milk brother (bring your own capsules. There were only two left for us for a four night stay.) No tea towels, paper towels, napkins, tissues or even a cleaning rag. Zilch! No broom, mop or squeegee (wet rooms?) Not even a bug spray can to deal with the occasional cockroach intruder! Sadly, Nisyros views will not be able to accommodate digital nomads and remote workers (unless you have the mother of data plans) as the Wi-Fi is quite bad, with not enough juice for media or streaming. Texts and highlights come through okay, but that’s about it!
