Spacious, convenient, serene, great view
10.0Everything about the Tova Sunset was to like. I can't recommend it highly enough. Owned and designed Germans, the local caretaker family, led by Mama Nikolas, were a delight. On a second story, above the small, but adequate, restaurant and where the caretakers live, the room was spacious as was the front balcony. My wife had plenty of room to do Tai Chi. 220/110 outlets abound, even one on the balcony. An electric water kettle and short extension cord are provided. The view of the lake is fantastic and you can watch fishermen, ferries in the distance, and ospreys all day long. On a clear day you might see Gunung Sinabung erupting in the distance. The restaurant is pretty good, there is another small place a couple of minutes away, and several other places within 15-20 minute walk. Because it is located at the neck of Tuktuk, you can cut across to the other side in about a ten minute walk. We went during the Pandemic (we live locally) so Tuktuk was very quiet. Yet there were enough places open to eat, including the top rated restaurants. There is also an ATM in Tuktuk. As my wife said, it is kind of like Bali before all the development. There is so much to see and do around Toba, especially if you are in water sports and nature. We made a 10 km loop to Ambarita to the north taking the main road (which has sidewalks all the way) there and then cutting through the fields on the way back. We took the road by the Oasis, (where you can get a banana split) to return to Tuktuk. Could be a bit wet and muddy, and you'll pass some water buffalo, but relatively easy to find. The footpath even shows up on Google maps.
