A charming, historic stay in a quieter part of Rome, perfect for experiencing authentic Roman life.

We really enjoyed our stay at Martina House! Set in an authentic 18th-century building, it had so much character and gave us a lovely sense of Rome's history. It was tucked away in a quieter, charming part of the city, near Via Veneto and Villa Borghese, away from the busiest tourist areas, which was exactly what we loved about it. Our host was warm and friendly, and so was his gorgeous dog, who added a lovely personal touch to our stay! There were some wonderful, authentic Italian restaurants nearby, and we really enjoyed exploring the neighbourhood. Rome is such a big city, and getting to the major attractions often involves a long walk or a taxi, although the train station was conveniently close. We chose to walk everywhere, which turned out to be a wonderful way to discover more of the city. One of the things we loved most was exploring some of Rome's lesser-known treasures. We visited the fascinating Catacombs of Priscilla, wandered through the beautiful and unusual Quartiere Coppedè with its whimsical Fountain of the Frogs, and explored Villa Torlonia, including the enchanting House of the Owls and the historic villa where Mussolini once lived. These places were absolutely fascinating and offered such a welcome escape from the crowds around Rome's more famous attractions. What made Martina House special for us was the opportunity to experience a different side of Rome. We loved wandering the local streets, eating at neighbourhood restaurants and feeling, even for a few days, as though we were living like Romans rather than tourists. If you enjoy authentic accommodation, a quieter neighbourhood and discovering parts of Rome beyond the usual tourist trail, I would definitely recommend Martina House. It was a lovely place to return to after a full day exploring, and we'd happily stay here again!

Welcoming staff, the best location you could get in Rome – near Villa Borghese park. A beautiful street and a lovely view from the window. You could feel the history of the old building throughout the apartment and in the room, especially in the beautiful doors and other details. There was a small fridge and a coffee machine - a big plus!

− The old pumping system in the toilet and the noise it makes. Also, the fact that they charge extra if guests check in after a certain time. We were lucky to arrive on time, but the extra charge creates unnecessary stress about being on time. Also, there were 3 - 4 notices explaining that we would have to pay for repairs if we broke the toilet system. It's understandable that the system is old, but there was no need to put up so many notices. It gives guests the feeling that they are not trusted. The café where we could get our morning coffee and pastry, which were included in the price, didn't offer the freshest pastries.
