Nice Family Run Hotel
9.0I stayed in Hotel Central in Iquitos for a week at the end of June to the beginning of July. For me the hotel was reasonably priced. Hotel Central is a family run hotel, and the gentleman who owns it is actively involved. While his name escapes me, he is fluent in English as a result of living in the United States for over 20 years. The owner’s time in the U.S. was where he picked up the hospitality skills that made the stay a pleasure. Breakfast was included, and was very tasty. The rooms themselves are kind of small, but if you are going to Iquitos, that is the least of your sacrifices. In my conversation with the owner, he told me that the hotel has its own well and water purification system. This to me is a big plus. Water in Iquitos is pulled out of the adjacent rivers, which have all kinds of things in it you probably don’t want. In addition, there was plenty of hot water. The room also had a safe, which is important to me, though it was very small. Overall customer service was excellent. The WiFi worked well, though for security reasons they change the password every three days or so. The owners arranged taxi service to the airport when I had to leave. (I had to arrive at the airport at 4:00 AM, so having a reliable taxi ride made a huge difference to me.)
− Some other things you should know about Hotel Central. A night club district has sprouted up in the general area since COVID. Six nights a week the music from the clubs goes until 4:30 AM. Because of this, I suggest trying to book a room on the courtyard side. They do provide ear plugs, and if you have done any kind of real traveling, you have probably experienced noisy night life that can be inconvenient if you are trying to get a full night’s sleep. I wish there were more breakfast options such as fruit, and more options for blended fruit drinks.
