Beautiful, historic home with modern upgrades
10.0The house is in Oak Park which is a very safe suburb of Chicago. It has features like brass and crystal fixtures, hardwood floors and radiators that old houses from the 1900's have, but it's been modernized with air conditioning and modern appliances. The host is absolutely awesome, he is highly educated and pleasant guy, and has some amazing magic tricks. He lives next door and is available in case of any problems. Since we were travelling with family this four bedroom house was a really good deal. Check-in and check-out were easy, as the entrance codes were sent by email. There is a spare bathroom and free washing machines and dryers in the basement. The kitchen is good sized, has modern appliances including a dishwasher and is stocked with all the plates/silverware you should need and a few staples (coffee, condiments, etc.). There's also a foosball table, guitar and some games. Parking in the garage is free (included in your stay). We parked in the "medium" sized garage which fit our large minivan just fine.
− The only disadvantage is there is a single bathroom (but there is a spare bathroom in the basement if you need it).
Felt really comfortable and everyone had had lots of space to sit and enjoy time together.....
9.0It was in an area that I grew up in and very familiar with all the homes in Oak Park. It was absolutely beautiful. I originally was looking for 3 hotel rooms that joined and couldn't find any. The cost was about the same and with the 2nd floor of the old house, all 6 of us could all sit together rather than having to meet in one hotel room or go down to the lobby which would be a problem. Having a full kitchen was nice for cooking just like home...........
− The driveway was really tight to maneuver around in. I have a quad cab pickup truck, and it was a little dicey to fit in outside the garage, but doable. The garage door was too low for my truck and with the steps to the loft in the garage would not fit in lengthwise anyway. I get it..... Since the house was built around 1900, model T's and horses were the norm. It was really nothing to complain about - just letting you know so future residents understand the layout.
