A great Christmas in a huge quirky medieval castle
9.0The castle is a fantastic and unique place, where we had Christmas dinner in the Great Hall. It is the atmosphere of such a huge historic building that is why you would go. That said, the castle is well heated and the beds and lounge furniture are very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and the grounds great to explore. A big shout out to Charlie who looks after the castle, she was really helpful and proactive, including getting a plumber out to fix a central heating valve on Christmas Eve evening.
− The castle is privately owned and I imagine maintenance is a major undertaking. That said there are a fair few maintenance tasks outstanding, such as fixing the dodgy cistern in the downstairs toilet. As others have said, water pressure is poor at the top of the castle meaning showers are a bit weak. However it’s a huge place and these things did little to detract from the fun of staying in a castle.

10.0We had an excellent stay at Plane Castle Manor. The accommodation had modern amenities with an authentic castle atmosphere. And despite visiting in December the building was warm and very well heated. The bedrooms were cozy and comfortable, and the kitchen was great for preparing meals - having a dishwasher was fantastic. We also loved the old furniture and unique quirks of the building itself- such as hidden stairways and nooks! The castle is in a beautiful setting which was great for some for walks and exploring. Our host Charlie was extremely helpful and quick to respond to messages. We would highly recommend the Plane Castle Manor to anyone looking for a unique stay in the central belt of Scotland.
− The Castle is split into two properties - The Manor and the Tower. This wasn’t a problem for us but something to keep in mind during your booking as you don’t get the whole Castle for booking The Manor. We wished we had booked both and will try to do so if visiting again!
Bitterly disappointed
1.0Keys were accessible from
− Pretty much everything! No heating and no open fire - property nothing like photos
We had a great stay but in no rush to go back or recommend to others
6.0Quirky. What’s app communication great when we needed help with something.
− Could be done with a good clean. Feels tired. Can’t move upstairs without sound travelling through the whole floor. Water pressure very poor for showers
Besondere Unterkunft mit historischem Charm.
