All nine of us thought the location and cottage were a real find.
7.0Gorgeous setting and grounds, lovely cottage with all rooms ensuite, comfortable beds, quiet since there was no wedding while we were there
− many doors squeaked badly (an issue at night); needed a hand towel, oven gloves and larger bowls for cereal in the kitchen; plagued by wasps in the house when windows were open; no recycling option for rubbish; we were given the wrong key-code for the door and phone number by Booking.com

9.0Loved the gardens and being able to wander by the river and over the little bridges. House very well equipped and bedrooms huge with all ensuite bathrooms was perfect for our group.
− We had a problem with the heating and hot water. Which was resolved by staff by midmorning which we were greatful for.
A touch of luxury in stunning grounds
9.0Beautiful cottage in a wonderful setting. The rooms were gorgeous, each with its own bathroom. The kitchen and lounge area were spacious and perfect to relax in. There was also a lovely outdoor area to sit in and enjoy the sunshine. We had a lovely walk in the grounds on our final morning. I think the cottage is amazing value for money, given that it has five bedrooms.
− We hired the cottage to host a baby shower for my daughter and a couple of friends. We prepared a lot of the food after we arrived, and I think the kitchen could have been better equipped with utensils. There was no vegetable peeler, for example. There were no tea towels either, nor were there any tea bags, apart from Earl Grey. We couldn't get the coffee machine to work, so it would have been good to have a cafetiere as backup. We thought we were getting cookies too, but sadly, there were none. I know Oxnead is famous for its weddings (my daughter was married there), so maybe guests don't need much more than the basics, apart from corkscrews, glasses, etc. These are minor negatives given how lovely it was to stay in the house.
