Cockroaches and dust under the beds

The neighbourhood was okay. It was possible to take public transit to Boston city, after a 15 min walk from the house. The interior was okay too.

− The apartment looked clean at a first glance, but when turning on the light at night in the kitchen a small red cockroach ran along the sink and down in the space below the bench and the stove. Then another cockroach ran over the floor in the hall and under a door. Next night a cockroach ran out from under the bed in the smallest bedroom where there was no air-conditioning. We guessed it preferred that room, since it was warmer than the other bedrooms. When we moved the bed to check if there were more, we discovered a lot of dust. Then we saw there was dust and hair on the floor under the beds in all the rooms. When I wrote about the cockroaches to the hostess, she just told me there should be a pesticide spray against cockroaches under the sink. She also told me to feel free to use it. The information on the bottle told that the spray is unhealthy both for insects and humans. It surprised me the hostess did not come right away to take care of the problem herself. Several times when requiring a deposit of US$500 via PayPal, apart from the prepaid nonrefundable rent, the hostess pointed out that we would never meet. The chat seemed AI-generated, since the same expressions were repeated. When I recommended her to inform guests there might occur cockroaches, the hostess suddenly changed her tone and claimed she did not know of the problem until I told her, though she already had the pesticide against cockroaches under the kitchen sink. Remarkable!

Location is great, accomodation is nice and kitchen well equiped. Owner is reactive and communication was easy. But deposit was the issue.

− You need a US bank account to pay the deposit (500USD). Blocking point for foreigners. You need to claim back the deposit (after waiting 1 week).
