This was a clean, quiet, and comfortable hotel with a friendly staff.
9.0The breakfast was a standard hotel continental breakfast. Everything was hot and tasty with a decent array of choices.
− There was nothing wrong with anything so I don't have any complaints.
Good
6.0The location
− The breakfast room too small
In need of maintenance and design ergonomics for disabled persons.
4.0Positives begin with the breakfast, while I missed the DIY Belgian waffles available at some hotels this hotel provided a respectable offering of warm breakfast daily. Biscuits & gravy, eggs, warm cinnamon buns, sausage or bacon . Bed was comfortable and the staff tried to be accommodating. Location is great if you are going to visit the University of Maryland or the National Archives (Site 2). I stayed a week to do research at the Archives. If you are a Costco member you can fuel up 2.5 miles up the street and there is an Aldis across the street from the Costco for inexpensive general provisions.
− I use a wheelchair. My reservation clearly stated this. The hotel is not setup to accommodate. 1) There was only one elevator working on day one. I discovered later the elevator had been broken for months. 2) The second, and last, elevator broke down on the first day of our stay and remained broken for several days. I was able to use my own crutches which I thankfully brought to get to & from my room, but that meant I needed a staff member to haul my wheelchair up and down the stairs every time I needed to go somewhere. 3) There are no rooms suitable for wheelchair guests on the ground floor, a potential hazard in an emergency situation. 4) The room I received was poorly designed with the bathroom light switch behind the large door on the outside of the bathroom. Turning the light on and off required the door to be mostly closed. flipping the switch, backing up to open the door, backing up over the one inch high transition into the bathroom (seriously the front wheels of my chair were stopped dead by the height). Then once you managed to get into the bathroom the door handle was so far away that it took several minutes to convince the door to shut. 5) The first shower stool I requested was delivered with only three legs. The second was dirty. 6) The thin shower curtain was not long enough to reach both walls of the shower 7) As further evidence of the lack of maintenance, the shower nozzle which is designed to adjust for height was only useful as a handheld device since it was left broken hanging over its armature.
I really enjoyed my stay at the Holiday Inn.
