− The owners are not providing the property they are advertising. We booked the advertised 2 bedroom apartment in the old city. On arrival we discovered that the coordinates on booking.com are a lie and the scammers supplied us with alternates. We followed these for a 10 min drive out of town to a bungalow (Google maps says a 1 hour 15 min walk back). During the check in the owner showed me the original physical ID of the person that he said had stayed in the property the night before! I don’t understand why he had it or why he was showing it to me, I don’t think he was trying to sell it. Giving the benefit of the doubt and assuming it was left behind, why would he disrespect his guests privacy in this way? The windows had badly ripped fly screens and there were blood splats where people have killed mosquitoes on the wall, the main bedroom attempted the pest exclusion task by combining a damaged fly screen with a filthy torn blanket! The place stank of cigarette’s and it was hot so we risked flys and mosquitoes and opened the windows. The bungalow has no air conditioning and no WIFI, there was washing up on the draining board and a dirty cup in the sink. In the lounge there was a used glass and water spilt over the table. There was sandy dust on the concrete floors and the area with carpet was a concertina of trip hazards. We arrived around 5pm and after our protests the owner offered a refund over Booking.com. We decided to reject this and take the hit for one night as the alternative required us to find a new place to stay in a hurry and we had no confidence that the scammers would honour their proposal to return the money paid as this required their approval on the booking platform. Do yourself a favour and find somewhere else. At least we only booked one night, we will leave in the morning and are now researching where we are going to sleep for the rest of our week in Taroudant.
