Casa Pelícano - Tropical house w' private pool and ocean views

Lovely scenery overshadowed by serious issues

We stayed six nights at Casa Pelícano. The view from the house is beautiful and just as described, and we really enjoyed listening to the howler monkeys around. However, some parts of the house clearly need maintenance: several blinds were not usable and one was even torn off and lying under the bed. The pool was only cleaned a day after our arrival and was very sandy at first. For a house advertised for up to six people there were only two loungers, and the additional lounging options shown in the photos were not available, instead there was a torn hammock. If you want to lie in the shade, you end up under the house next to the air‑conditioning exhausts, looking at drainage pipes. Overall, the house itself has potential and a great view, but the condition and maintenance did not meet our expectations. With the new house built next door, a lot of the lush vegetation shown in the advertising has been cut now. Also the privacy is greatly reduced compared to the original photos.

− What we did not like was mainly related to the construction and how it was handled. During our stay, the construction site directly next to the house was active every weekday, with a lot of noise and dust, so spending time by the pool was only bearable for us with noise‑cancelling headphones. In addition, there are at least two more construction sites in the area that could also be heard regularly. Several times we had no running water in the house; on one day for around 24 hours, which significantly affected basic comfort. Communication with the property manager was always friendly, but important information about the construction was, from our perspective, not communicated clearly or early enough. Even though we asked in advance, we only found out that the neighboring construction was still ongoing about two hours before arrival, and the promised measures to improve the situation either came too late or did not have any real effect. A price reduction was agreed as compensation, but this was transferred to us minus the bank transfer fees, which we had to bear ourselves. Overall, these points had a major negative impact on our stay.
