Great house on a quiet street

Great place to stage visit to the desert!

We loved the location (close to both Death Valley and Red Rock Canyon parks). It was quiet and nicely secluded, but close to go into town for meals (make sure you go to O Happy Bread!). It worked great as staging for our desert flowers trip. The in-suite bath is super convenient and both adult bedrooms were comfortable (we did not use the bedroom for kids). Watching sunset in the backyard was nice.

− There were a couple of odd things that didn’t impede us enjoying our time there, but something to consider. There is a system that notifies that the front door is open. It’s loud and annoying (you do not want to open the door while someone is sleeping). There is a door to the back yard, but it’s not possible to use it (must walk around from the front). There was a light odor and some noises inside we couldn’t decipher.

Would Not Stay Again

We chose this property because it is about the closest we could get to Death Valley (on this side) and not stay in the park. It is a double-wide trailer home about eight or ten minutes from downtown Pahrump and has three bedrooms arranged in a convenient way. Two bathrooms are a huge plus! An oven, microwave, stove, good dishwasher (with plenty of pods), and washer and dryer make longer stays affordable and convenient. Body wash, shampoo AND conditioner are provided. Oh, and the master bathroom had air freshener AND toilet spray. There was olive oil, sugar, tea, salt and pepper, and a few other kitchen food items in the cupboards. Linens smelled clean and fresh. I believe there was a TV in two of the bedrooms as well as a nice big one in the living room. Two of packs of cards, Yahtzee, and a couple other games provided. Host found a slow cooker for us after I asked if one was provided.

− By far, the biggest problem we had with this home was the cleanliness. Within a short time after arriving we noticed our kids' socks were filthy. We immediately mopped the floor, getting lots of dirt, hair, little rocks and black specks. Not feeling comfortable yet, we mopped again (see pictures). As we were unpacking, we also found that most of the drawers had pebbly stuff in the corners and scattered around them. One bedside table drawer had a crumpled baby burp cloth, two dryer sheets and that pebbly stuff in it. I immediately messaged the property owners about my concerns and sent pictures. The next morning I wiped off grimy light switches, door knobs, and kitchen knobs and handles and felt a lot better. I also got a reply from the owners (see pics). They explained the unique mud in the area, the horrible renters they had previous to us, and conceded that they should probably remember to check drawers after renting it out and wished us the best now that we'd cleaned it up. I replied that that wasn't our problem and shouldn't affect our trip and that I would like a one-day refund. At that point, the owners got disrespectful and threatened to back charge for any damage to the floors we cleaned. I dropped it and contacted Booking.com. Other things that don't necessarily mean the place isn't clean, but make it feel old are: peeling paint around windows, yellowing plastic faucets, popcorn ceilings, areas of beat-up paint on doors and thresholds, unusable closets.
