Warm hosts and a cozy room

We had a great stay, I would rate this as a super-host out of having travelled in many countries and similar houses. James and his family are very welcoming and helpful hosts. He pointed us to the necessary apps to get around in China and interesting spots in Kunming and its surroundings before our arrival. We were kindly cooked some meals although this is not advertised or expected, it was very thoughtful. Overall we were felt left in very good hands and James kindly found vegetarian adresses fitting our diet. He also helped us find a locker for our luggage when we left. The location is as visible on maps, a small suburb village, but it was very easy to reach the city center with mobile-hailed Taxi (taxis are very cheap and much more convenient in Kunming than public transport). The plus is that it is very quiet compared to the city and you will feel as if you are staying on the steps of the mountain. Xishan mountain is also closer as a result and worth a half-day or day trip. The room is very clean and the terrasse has a cozy collection of plants. The bed especially had a very good mattress, which is important for me. We only stayed 3 nights but could easily have stayed a week with James and his family to enjoy the many sights of Kunming’s surroundings and the fresh air of this high altitude city. I will definitely stay here again on my next transit in Kunming.

The owner is someone who is really discreet but also really caring about his visitors. We were greatly welcomed. He helped us to find solutions when my wife sprained her ankles while visiting Kunming, and even guided us to some small and unknown locations around the city. The room is located at the 3rd floor of the house, and there is a small and beautiful terrace with lots of flowers and plants. It's really nice to just spend some time in there and just run away from the big city. As for the transport, since the place is not directly into Kunming, the owner can drop you at the nearest subway station if you desire. We did not think of that as a problem. It's a great and exclusive experience to be able to live near the city while enjoying the countryside of Kunming.

− Pour nous qui n'étions pas véhiculés et qui ne comprenons pas un mot de chinois, c'était compliqué d'être loin des transports en commun et cela nous a couté quelques suppléments de taxi.

Well, what can we say about James' place? From the moment we arrived in Kunming we received the kind of care and attention only reserved for family and friends. James was incredibly helpful and kind in every aspect making sure we were happy in every which way possible but also never being pushy. He has been the honest highlight to our trip in Yunnan. The apartment is on the third floor of his family home and we had the entirety to ourselves. It is beset by one of the most beautiful rooftop gardens and a conservatory in which to have breakfast. In the apartment itself, there are all the mod cons as well as a sleek design and elegance to all the furniture showing off James' architectural skills. The location is outside of Kunming proper but don't let that put you off as it was near to all the natural beauty areas which had brought us there in the first place.
