A game of two halves. Comfortable, but not worth the money paid, nor the rating seen on booking.com
5.0So, firstly I can't fault the eagerness to get us into their place after Storm Darragh put paid to the original attempt. Accommodating, the host switched the date, even though he didn't have to. Sofa and beds were really very comfortable. WiFi was fast enough to keep the kids entertained and television provided with fire-like TV package, though free-view is not available. Shower was stand-up and suitable for the family. It was clear some money has been put into the property to make it accommodating. Location was handy for the reason we were visiting the area, but it's in no way a tourist hot spot.
− Firstly, I'd paid an extra £50 for the privilege of staying in the house closer to the Christmas period, the host stating it was a busy period and it was the only way he could guarantee our booking. The host kept saying they were looking to provide a 5-star service, but more effort is required to get there I'm afraid. Immediate problems hit as the host hadn't sent a welcome pack, so no key safe details, nor WiFi details or other items you might expect. The parking space, whilst very useful the setting of the street, was set upon a concrete slab, with the houses either side having slopes down to their front doors, so keep your brave pants on if you're parking here. Shortfalls immediately evident were the cob webs behind the radiators, a loo seat that wasn't secured in place (so having to tentatively put it back in place and pray it didn't move when sitting) and dated kitchen storage spaces with their handles not secured in place either. delving a little deeper, the boiler (and I suspect the heating and electrical systems) was very dated, the grout between the tiles in both the Kitchen and Bathroom was either failing or had become discoloured. The solution, either ignore it or paint over it in white. Paper-thin walls meant that the neighbours could be heard very clearly at night. No fans were present for either cooling nor to provide a white noise source to drown out next door. On inspection of the bathroom, the polka-dot ceiling detail was actually the dead bodies of many, many squashed flies. Outside, the property had been egged on the back window, not cleaned and the garden looked like it had been dug up and left, so not very useable. the final nail came in the form of information on actions to conduct on departure, which was received about an hour and a half after we departed.
Enjoyable and convenient house for families and small groups
10.0The house was lovely. The location was very convenient. Only a five minute walk from the main high Street. The parking was a nice bonus since the area is restricted to permit holders only. The bedrooms were fairly big and the mattresses were comfortable. The house was relatively well cleaned compared to other Airbnb I have been in. The kitchen was well equipped and the living room was cozy and spacious. Really good for the price.
− Feedback for the host: - perhaps consider switching to using a smart lock for the main door since it would be more convenient for multiples guests. -Also, I think the providing shampoo, conditioner and body wash would be nice since very often guests will want to go to have a shower as soon as they arrive and not have to worry about going to the market for those. - Additionally, the house did not have a hairdryer which was a bit problematic since my girlfriend likes to wash her hair regularly. - I think adding a sofa bed would be a great idea since we were considering bringing another friend with us, and we would not have minded to pay extra. - Lastly the toilet cover was loosen and I think the garden needs some clearing. Although of the negatives we still had a super time in Gillingham.
