The breakfast was lovely

The inside door was locked, so had to go around the pub in the pouring rain to go for breakfast. It wasn't as clean as when we stayed the last time. Not that we were there to watch tv. But the signal wasn't very good and no wifi. Other than that it was pleasant 778

Welcoming and friendly, but room and cleanliness needs attention!

6.0

The location and friendliness of staff. Like the age and history of the building.

Certain areas leading to the room were quite dirty and un loved. The bed was comfy, but the pillows we felt had an odour … not very nice at all. There were holes in the bathroom wall where maybe a shelf once was… so no where to put things. Perhaps the room needs decorating too!

We shall have to be more careful in picking B&B's in future.

We chose a bad night to stay. Being Halloween (31/10) some places go a long way to celebrate the event to bring in custom, and Ye Olde Black Cross was certainly one. There were kids, and later adults, discos on that night. Not what we hoped for, but there was a lot of custom and many were obviously enjoying the events. We had drinks in the pub but astonishingly there were no cask beers. Previously we had tried to book a meal in the pub, but had been told (despite what we read on websites) that they did not serve food. When we got there we were grateful that we had had to book to eat elsewhere.

The room was not as clean as we had been led to expect from reviews. The accommodation appeared rather run-down in general. What did we think of the breakfast? Well we had paid for it but we didn't have it. We had asked for breakfast at 9am but the link-door to the pub interior remained locked at that time and we could not get in. We tried to make calls but got no answer. We managed to speak to a staff member who happened to be outside and he made a call to the manager. Finally someone (from upstairs in the pub) opened the link door at 9:30 in preparation to make breakfast. The indoors had not been cleaned since the previous night - we were invited to make our own tea/coffee but there were no cups, and the table was stained. We decided to leave, and I went into the kitchen to let the staff member know. What I saw there - plates left with half-eaten food on them - reinforced our desire not to stay longer.
