A lovely short stay, fascinating building, friendly staff, but let down by poor food, under-staffing and lack of attenti

The garden and pool situated in the ramparts was very pretty. We liked the quirky nooks and crannies dotted around the pousada, with quiet places to sit. Enjoyed being in a historic building. The staff were very friendly and helpful

− Food in the restaurant was not good. Poor experience. Again, staff very friendly and helpful, but the food offer and quality during the day and in the evening was poor - not up to Pestana’s usual standard (our family are Pestana resort members), especially for a four star hotel. However, the selection of fruit etc at breakfast was good. The hotel appeared to run with skeleton staffing levels. The bar was not open in the evenings (pool bar closed 7.30pm). We had to go in search of drinks in the evening and waited over 30mins to receive what we eventually managed to order via the restaurant, despite there being a lovely bar in the billiard room, that was never open. Use cups and glasses had been left in the games room on the mezzanine were never cleared away - left for two days, suggesting housekeeping were not cleaning those areas.

The property was beautifully set in historic castle. We found it clean and comfortable.

− The pool was nothing like advertised, and extremely tired with sun lotion staining, which was disappointing for our grandchildren (and adults). The bar was closed and we had to order our drinks from the restaurant to take to an empty bar? We booked the restaurant on the first night and there was no organisation. The gentleman who runs the kitchen/restaurant was rude, moody and unprofessional. When we complained about the poor quality of their menu, the gentleman that seemed to be in charge was angry to the point of abruptly taking the plates away to kicking the doors to the kitchen whilst we were all able to view😳 That man was rude on several occasions and we felt that we were treated like inconveniences rather than paying guests!

A historic local - classic art, wonderful food and a restful stay.

We loved the classic design, its history as a convent and remaining castle walls. The pool is warm and surrounded by olive trees. The rooms are large-ish. We will try to book Historic Hotels going forward.

− This is very minor, but there’s a toe-threatening oddly-placed door stop in the bathroom.

El edificio es precioso, con multitud de estancias, un jardín con piscina muy bonito y nos ha gustado mucho el pueblo. Buen desayuno. Personal muy amable.

Un lujo de antiguo castillo/convento reconvertido en un hotel que ya en sí merece una visita. Comodidad, silencio, personal muy agradable y buenos desayunos.

− El baño solo tenía un enchufe y no funcionaba muy bien. Lo comunicamos pero el problema no se solucionó del todo.
