Lovely, traditional accommodation in a perfect, quiet location

Location was perfect, very close to the best restaurant (in our opinion) in Apokoronas which is Elpis. Place was very clean, communication with the host was brilliant, lots of amenities you could want and need for an extended stay. Stone construction keeps the place cool which means the AC doesn’t need to be on all the time. Nice and quiet area. We were so impressed and felt very welcomed by the spread the lovely host had left us, we had snacks, water, beer, bread amongst other things left for us.

− WiFi wasn’t the best, it was a mobile data hub and to be fair I think if it was located upstairs that would have helped. Missing a sun lounger upstairs, so there was only 1. Parking is for a small car, and access is tricky. This is by no means the fault of the host or accommodation, and we’d hired a small car so it wasn’t an issue, I’m only mentioning it to make others aware. This is a side effect of the lovely, quiet and quaint village location. As others have mentioned, the stairs are steep - my wife is scared of heights and struggled initially but again, not reflective of the accommodation per say, again a side effect of the lovely traditional feel of the property.

Elena was wonderful. She met us at the property to check in and explained various features such as the hot water, washing machine, not to flush toilet paper (the norm on the island), where to dispose of garbage, etc. She is very quick to respond to any email communications. She left us multiple provisions such as spices, sugar, flour, juice, Oil and vinegar, water (even though tap water is potable), bread, coffee, jam, butter, cheese, etc. The location in Plaka is just around the corner from the main square and 4 restaurants, and small grocery stores. The location is very quiet (even though the pigeons are noisy in the morning). We felt safe. Very clean apartment. Well stocked kitchen. Queen size bed and pillows are comfortable and good storage space in bedroom. Outdoor veranda off the bedroom is lovely.

− The staircase to upper bedroom could be challenging for anyone with balance or mobility challenges. Bathroom is on main floor. Watch the multiple little steps throughout: at front door, into bathroom, from veranda, from kitchen to living room. Good shoes are recommended due to the hills and uneven walking surfaces in town. The walk down to Almyrida beach is nice (on road), and walking back up the steep hills is effortful, but nice. The road is very narrow, so get a small car if needed.

We loved the authentic character of the house and the outdoor areas in which to have coffee and relax. It was well equipped with everything that we might need and Elena had kindly left a supply of provisions including delicious oranges from her garden to welcome us.

− While it wasn’t a problem for us the spiral staircase might be a hazard for the less sure footed
