belle endroit mais à rafraichir absolument

4.0

Should have been better.

Beautiful cottage in the heart of the countryside. Quiet and very comfortable. Plenty of lovely towns and places to visit nearby.

Having had no contact since time of booking in January and given that we were 4 days away from arrival I messaged via booking.com to ask about check in and for the single beds to be put together. Basically I wanted reassurance that our holiday was still on. No reply. So I sent WhatsApp messages to the 2 numbers provided. No reply. I then used Idyllic retreats own contact form. No reply! At this point I'm really beginning to worry. Finally i try to call Talullah. Goes to answerphone. All this from a company who claim to be available 24/7 for their guests. So I contacted customer service at booking.com who managed to speak to someone to confirm our booking ect. In hospitality you can't pick and choose which messages you respond to. This experience left us feeling angry and disappointed. So to the cottage itself. It is a beautiful building with a stylish interior. However it is in desperate need of some tlc. First impressions walking to the back door are the delapitaded pallets on the walls. Rotting and filthy they need replacing. Perhaps some nice flowers in them too instead of cobwebs and toilet rolls. The outdoor light doesn't work which is dicey with the steps in the dark. Mind your fingers opening the door as the lock placement will shave your knuckles. Also the garden is in need of a tidy up. Flowerbeds are messy and covered in dead leaves. Garden furniture cheap and kept coming apart. Cupboard with bbq equipment was locked! In the bedrooms there is nowhere to hang long dresses. There is a second pole for anyone over 7 foot. The shower head was insecure and kept swivelling. Water pressure non existent. If you turned the cold tap just 1mm too much the water turned cold. Made washing a chore not a pleasure. Sink doesn't hold water. ght in vanity mirror not working and please provide towels that will wrap around someone larger than a size 6. This property could be a 10/10 but it's in need of a deep clean and some refreshment.

Dishonest, unbusinesslike and poor property management

1.0

Pretty cottage - thats about it.

Really very disappointed to report that what we thought looked like a lovely cottage turned out to be one of the worst weekends. Such a shame because if things had gone the way we thought they would we could have used the property several times in the future as we have family in the same village. The house was very dirty and smelly. The garden very unkept, a dead bird on the front path the door to enter the property was in itself a challenge to not hurt your knuckles. There were security lights but they were not working which wasn't very helpful arriving late on a Friday evening. The hearth in the breakfast room is a safety hazard and I would be amazed if somebody hadn't severely hurt themselves on it already. The bathroom was very dirty, skirting boards dusty. Toilet seat was cracked. We had no heating or hot water for most of the weekend and we couldn't light a fire because the cupboard that housed all the coal was locked. Idyllic Retreat's response to sort out the heating was to send unhelpful texts asking us to ‘try this’ or ‘try that’ for most of Saturday morning. It was a complete waste of our weekend break to see family. We should not have had this inconvenience and they should have sent somebody over immediately to sort it out and not expect paying guests to deal with the matter. I had one phone call on the Saturday lunch time from Tallulah at Idyllic Retreats which was very apologetic, and she stated at least three times that we would receive a full refund. Thank fully a relative popped over and fixed the heating for us saving the owners and Tallulah any expense or inconvenience at sending out an engineer who apparently was arriving on the Monday after our stay but then but after a week of ghosting me on booking.com and whatsapp to request my promised refund I was then offered a 50% refund because apparently I had misunderstood.

Fabulous and gorgeous

We loved the house and garden, so gorgeous. The kitchen was wonderful and the bathroom was warm and comfortable. Quintessential English country cottage.

Slight musty smell in places to be expected with age of property

Wonderful country cottage stay!

8.0

Wonderful country cottage in idyllic location, so restful, quiet and peaceful. We were 4 girls away for a weekend and it was perfect!

There was nothing we didn’t like, there were a few teething problems that got a good prompt response from the owners who were very helpful.
