9.0La casa, ristrutturata recentemente con molta cura, è dotata di tutti i comfort, molto pulita e silenziosa. Ottima posizione per visitare Craco e i calanchi.

Casa della Nonna, a little slice of paradise at Montalbano Jonico
10.0Casa della Nonna is a gem, a one in a million find. Tucked away in a private little dead end cobblestone side street with parking at the door, it is lovingly and thoughtfully set up by someone wanting to make you feel welcome. Antonella has thought of everything, including a choice of normal and decaffeinated coffees and even tea although not many Italians drink it. There were little cakes waiting for us in the fully equipped kitchen, and cold water in the fridge. The apartment has a large living area with couch and dining table, a generous bathroom and a comfortable large bed. Everything was spotlessly clean and tidy. It's like coming home. Then there is the town around it. Montalbano is a lovely little place at the top of a hill with incredible views all around no matter where you go, and a maze of little streets to lose yourself in. Half an hour's drive from here is Draco, an abandoned ancient hilltop village dating back to 540BC. Add another half hour and you are in Matera, home to the ancient Sasso caves and designated the European Capital of Culture for 2019. It also holds the title of UNESCO World Heritage Site, specifically for the "Sassi di Matera". This recognition highlights the city's unique history, cultural heritage, and the remarkable cave dwellings that define its landscape. Casa della Nonna is definitely well worth visiting and we will be back when next we return to Italy.
