Relaxing Getaway in South Shields!♡

Lovely host but slightly disappointing stay unfortunately!

We enjoyed our stay, and the price was very competitive, which was great. The decor was also lovely, the shower was great, and the beach was very nice. It definitely served the purpose we needed it to: providing accommodation for the week we had in between tenancies. Parking was also great - we never had any issues getting a spot right outside the property, and this was completely free. The neighbours also seemed lovely. Although it felt a little bit dodgy at times, I felt safe enough to walk around by myself during the day. The kitchen was also very well-equipped, and I was able to cook meals, with the only downside being that the fridge didn't work. The washing machine was also very useful.

− I should preface this by saying that we are 3 young professionals, so it was a very stressful time of moving while working, which may have made us a bit grumpier. I chose this accommodation because it was by far the most affordable, and the reviews were great. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were quite shocked to find that the beds weren’t made, there were dirty dishes in the sink and towels on the floor. After this, the host quickly sent round a cleaner, which was good, but it was quite an inconvenience having to leave at this point because there wasn’t enough room for her, her 3 children and us in the property at the same time. We also felt that it still felt a bit unclean afterwards. For example, a stained bathroom cord, a mouldy front door handle, some dirty marks on the bedding, etc. We also noticed a strong smell of smoke throughout the property at points, which I think might have been coming through the vents from the property downstairs. Further to this, the toilet smelt like drains quite frequently. I also feel it's worth mentioning that the fridge doesn’t work. All of our food went off very quickly, including the milk that went sour 8 days before its use-by date. Furthermore, there weren’t any bin bags in the bins and the washing up liquid ran out very quickly - stuff like that makes all the difference when your check-in is delayed, and you're very tired! It's also worth noting that if you will be commuting/travelling north of the river, it takes about twice as long to avoid the Tyne Tunnel, so this was an added cost I hadn't factored in. Nonetheless, the host was super lovely and appreciative of my feedback. She had asked multiple times during the stay if things had been up to standard and was very receptive to my comments. On the whole, it was a very good price, so I can't complain too much. If I were looking for a cheap holiday and a nice beach, I might return, though I would be a little hesitant.

As soon as you walk in, smells lovely. Clean, tidy, comfortable. Living area spacious. Dining table all equipped with plates/bowls. Kitchen full with essentials. Again have to comment on the smell of the property - all throughout it smells amazing. WiFi, fire-stick tv (which is a massive plus with two small children) travel cot was here for our 1 year old, couldn’t fault one thing.

− I wouldn’t say I didn’t like anything but neighbours/people passing is loud but again Saturday night/early morning in South Shields is what to be expected. But didn’t affect our stay.
