Not much. The caretaker did his best to be helpful but us not speaking Tamil and him not speaking English made communicating issues exceedingly challenging

− No hot water when we arrived late at night after a long bus journey; being kept up for a couple of more hours while caretaker and owner (living abroad) tried unsuccessfully to fix it; being bitten by mosquitoes throughout the night - they had ready access through a large (1m x.5m) uncovered vent above the toilet in the bathroom; having to rise at 6:30am, after little sleep, to be ready for the electrician, who management booked to fix the hotwater at 7am, but who didn't arrive until after 8am and was not able to fix the issue but instead turned off the power and said he would return to fix it later... This was just the first 10 hrs of our stay, but you get the picture and it didn't let up. Did I mention the room faced onto a noisy street and the power outlets beside the bed didn't work? I ended up unwell due to the lack of proper rest and peace.

We never met the owner but loved the housekeeper for this property. He was super helpful and offered help with any issues we had. He was so nice, def the highlight of our stay. The room itself was basic and fine. Had all the necessaries. I liked that there was drinking water available and AC. I thought the room itself was a bit overpriced for what it was but I think this place is worth it if you rent out the entire apartment (with the kitchen and stuff) The price could also be a reflection of the location as well, which is a nice and safe neighborhood and has fun things around.

I had an excellent experience at Shriya Homestay in Madurai. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making me feel at home straight away. The entire property is kept clean—rooms, bathrooms, and common areas were all well maintained throughout my stay. The homestay is ideally located just a short distance from the city centre, making it easy to reach the Meenakshi Amman Temple, local markets, and plenty of restaurants and shops. Public transport and auto-rickshaws are readily available right outside, which was very convenient. Considering the level of comfort, hospitality, and the excellent location, Shriya Homestay offers outstanding value for money. I would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Madurai

Wonderful home stay experience

Wonderful hosts who were very helpful and trusting in every way. we really enjoyed conversations with them via Google translate and exchanged much about our lives and family. Room was spacious and everything worked well. we were able to extend our stay by an extra night due to illness without any problems. The hosts organised an auto for an early 5:30 am departure and came early to see us off and collect keys. home stay is close to grocery stores, street stalls and good restaurants.

− Home stay is on opposite side of river to major tourist sites in city so involved extra costs to get around.
