A thoroughly uncomfortable stay

4.0

Convenient location if you are in Didyma to see the Apollo Temple; easy parking right outside, beautiful garden, the room came with an attractive terrace. Comfortable bed, though quite small for a double.

This is not a boutique hotel. It used to be a simple guesthouse (photo from 1995 hangs in the room) and it still is. Internally, the entire place is in need of refurbishment, especially the bathroom (with almost non-existent water pressure). The room was very dark and quite small, the bed only reachable from one side. Very noisy fridge. However, the worst was the noise, loud music, on both nights I stayed there. Arriving in the late afternoon, the owner's childrens' birthday party was in full swing, with loud pop music until around 10pm. My request to turn it down a bit was politely ignored. It felt just so uncomfortable. The following night was ruined by hours and hours of incredibly loud disco music until 1.45am from a restaurant/bar right opposite the hotel. The area around the temple is full of bars and restaurants, so I assume it's hard to have a quiet night in that location. The famous temple was closed for repairs, so there was hardly anyone around in Didyma.

Great host, great to talk to. Excellent breakfast and our host was very helpful in helping us to plan the sightseeing bits and the onward journey up the coast. The building itself is very old but beautifully restored and renovated, lovely terrace and courtyard, well maintained and cared for. Access is a bit tricky, the lanes are very narrow for a car but our host gave us percet directions.

nothing.

The property is right next to the Apollo Temple. The courtyard area was a lovely place to enjoy our breakfast, which was very good.

**Update** The property posted a comment on our original review that stated we were shown other rooms but turned them down. First off, based on what I understood from the staff member, we were being shown these other two rooms to "justify" the size of the room we had, meaning these other rooms were the same size and we shouldn't be complaining about how small ours was. It did not seem that we were being offered these rooms as an alternative. (This may have been due to a language misunderstanding.) Second, the new rooms they showed were not any nicer than the room we already had. They still didn't look anything like the photos. Also, I don't recall having the opportunity to request a room on a higher floor. We feel their comments are misleading. **Original** Based on the photos, we expected an inviting and comfortable room with plenty of space to move around and a nice view, even a terrace outside the room. Instead, we were led to a back building and through a small, dark courtyard to a utilitarian room crowded with three twin beds and accessed through a narrow entryway containing a desk. The beds were only fair in comfort; the "view" was of a tree and alleyway through the window bars. The little refrigerator didn't work, though they replaced it with one that did. The bathroom was nice sized, but one of the two shower doors was missing. When I showed the listing pictures to the staff member and said our room didn't look anything like them, he seemed annoyed and implied "pictures, just pictures". Another thing to warn future guests: the nearby restaurant hosts live music that is loud, starts around 22:00, and goes until at least 01:00 .
