9.0I had a wonderful stay at Balcarres. The garden, house and rooms were very beautiful, everything was spotlessly clean, comfortable, practical, and peaceful. Kate and her co-host were very thoughtful, welcoming, and interesting.I would definitely stay here again.

Advertisement for this property was misleading in that it’s just a room in the hosts regular residence. We would have bo

− It was not clear that it’s just a room within the hosts normal residence and that when using the kitchen space, the host was in their dressing gown. It was quite uncomfortable and awkward. Also the place was very dusty, there were old towels in the bathroom from previous guests that were still there when we left. We personally killed 6 spiders in the bathroom and the bedroom. Also, there was no way to lock your room when you weren’t inside it so our belongings didn’t feel secure.

Elegant, homely, very comfortable, great host and location
10.0Breakfast was a very healthy continental breakfast with homemade bread, granola and jams plus other nice things. Wish I was staying another day as it was a great way to start the day. The proximity and short walk from Stroud station - also very near to the canal.
− The slight short walk up a hill to get there (but this has nothing to do with the owner) - it is the Stroud area which is quite hilly.The very short uphill walk was worth it though and I hope to visit again at some point.
