It is very natural.

− They would be able to make a much nicer place out of this. Running water was only in front of the house. The isolation next to the beds looked half done. There were no internet.

We booked just a single night, yet we were warmly welcomed by Jackie, and made to feel just as important as other properties have for two weeks. The Squealing Pig is something a little different, so come here with an open mind, as this cottage is almost completely off grid. What you do get is a gas powered two ring hob as the greatest creature comfort, pretty much everything else is something out of the ordinary... no electricity, compost toilet, a burner for heating - though absolutely not required in this warmest of Hebridean summers! Also, you get comfortable beds, a stunning location and peace and quiet that might just give you the break from sensory overload your system needs. Not for everyone perhaps, but with the right mindset, lovely.

The location is stunning. Jackie and John were extremely nice and helpful. The experience of basic living in a bothy was very refreshing. We slept like logs. There are so many wonderful things to see on Lewis and Harris. Many close by .

− Nothing really. It all depends on your expectations. This is a bothy not an air BandB.

We had the most incredible stay on Lewis. Jackie was so helpful. We had everything we needed and it was like nowhere we've ever stayed. The bothy was cosy with the fire and spacious for 2 of us. It was a great location to explore the island. Coming from city life, this was the most I have switched off in a while!

Comfortable. Warm. Peaceful. Well equipped with everything you need. Battery lights if needed but as it didn't really get dark, we didn't use them. Gas stove for cooking and a cool box and ice blocks supplied. Wood/coal burner, so was super cozy, host can help if you're not sure how to use it. Friendly and helpful host. Use of shower and charging points in the main house. Cute chickens and duck. Located near rocky coves and a sandy beach good for exploring. Easy to find. Easy access to the rest of Lewis for exploring.

A real experience of feeling what it would have been like to live in the past. We loved the cosy woodburner, beautiful location and friendly host. Brilliant hot shower and socket to power phone in the main house.

− Nothing……except perhaps one more pillow on the bed (personal preference) but otherwise we loved our stay.
