Beautiful grounds and a lovely restful environment - provided you’re ok with very basic facilities and laid-back, though
7.0This highlight of this place is the garden - large, verdant and lovingly tended with sitting areas dotted around, some overlooking the rushing stream at the back of the property. The location is attractive too, in a steep sided valley with high peaks all around. The staff were very friendly and did their best to be helpful. The rooms are generally clean and well kept.
− Our bathroom was extremely basic, with neither the bath, bidet or shower advertised on the Booking.com website. There was just a large cold tank, a floor drain and a toilet (fortunately a sit-on one rather than a hole in the ground). We had to heat water in a kettle, and borrow a washing up bowl for shaving, hair washing etc. Room facilities are very plain too, with no reading lights, just a rather dim ceiling light. Although there was an electric kettle, no tea, coffee, sugar etc were provided, and without a car we had to trek into the village for supplies. Lastly, although the staff were completely charming, they didn’t seem to have much of an idea of hospitality. Although there’s a café on site - a beautiful open sided covered space, airy and well furnished - the only food on offer was nasi goreng (three times a day, though we managed to get mie goreng one day and one of us succeeded in ordering an omelette for breakfast on one occasion only). Breakfast was initially brought at 6 am without having been ordered - we got the time amended to a more civilised 8 am on subsequent days. Food arrived without any drink offered. Generally the staff seemed more interested in tending to the garden than in catering for guests, which led us to wonder whether the normal hospitality team were away. It was extremely quiet in the three days we stayed, and we seemed to be the only guests.
