A ruined holiday caused by poor accommodation conditions and a refund promise that was not honoured.

Calm location, close to a beautiful beach in Stavros. We chose this property because of the peaceful surroundings and the high rating, expecting to have a wonderful family holiday. Unfortunately, our experience at the property was the complete opposite.

− We booked 7 nights but stayed only 2. A refund was promised, then refused. The apartment was not clean upon arrival. The toilet was dirty, the floors dusty and there were multiple dead and live insects (millipedes) inside the property. Despite removing them and keeping the doors and windows closed, more kept appearing. One even fell and stuck onto my chest when I was showering. We also discovered geckos living inside the property. We saw one entering the air-conditioning unit in our child's room and then found lots of gecko droppings behind the TV and on the air-conditioning wire (photos attached). At that point our child became too frightened and refused to sleep there. We contacted the owner, she came to the property around 22:30. We showed the problems and she offered only one solution: leave immediately and receive a refund. She collected the keys and repeatedly assured that a she will arrange a refund on Booking the next morning. No cleaning, another apartment or any other solution was offered. We left just before midnight without even knowing where we would sleep. The next day, the promised refund was refused. The owner then ignored our calls and messages and also failed to respond to Booking emails. After more than a month of phone calls and emails with Booking and a formal complaint, the owner finally refunded only 2 of the 5 unused nights. We also had to pay for alternative accommodation ourselves. The rating of this property is high, but it was so misleading for us and led into this situation. The owner may appear friendly at first, but our experience showed a very different side of her. I would strongly advise guests to be cautious. One more thing worth mentioning: the listing states that the property speaks English, but it's not true. The only way to communicate with the owner was through Google Translate, and Booking was finally able to make some progress only after involving a Greek-speaking representative.
