Sehr schönes Häuschen in einem sehr schönen Dörfchen.
10.0Die Unterkunft ist sehr schön eingerichtet und gemütlich. In der Küche findet man alles, was man braucht. Wir waren nur zwei Tage dort, diese waren jedoch sehr schön!
− Der bellende Hund in der Nachbarschaft. Zum Glück war er gleichzeitig mit uns müde 🐶
Quiet and peaceful.
10.0The stay was exactly what we expected. Quiet, relaxing and peaceful. We were looking for a small village atmosphere. That is exactly what we got.
An old village house in a wonderful traditional Greek community
8.0Located down an alleyway just a minute's walk from the main square in Doukades, Alia House is a very sympathetic restoration of a typical century-old Greek village house, with lovely wooden floors, a very well-equipped kitchen and a delightful balcony with an incredible view of the mountains. There are lots of nice touches: polished banisters made from olive branches, a writing desk, a wooden barrel serving as table in the hall. The photographs give a very accurate idea of how well the house has been decorated and furnished. Doukades itself is one of the nicest places we visited in Corfu, with a lively village square full of children playing in the evening, an village hall, three churches and a supermarket which also acts as the kafenion, serving coffee, pastries, beer, wine etc, where locals (especially the men) play cards at night, and watch the TV news. There are three tavernas, one of which is excellent (Elizabeth's), and one very good (To Steki).
− As others have mentioned, the shower room downstairs is a bit smelly, and the shower doesn't drain very well (the floor seems to slope away from the drainage holes). The house is very close to neighbouring properties, and at times can be pretty noisy. We visited in mid-October, and the blanket on each bed wasn't adequate to keep us warm; we then made up the beds with the duvets in the wardrobe but these turned out to be incredibly thick and hot! Obviously, visitors in summer wouldn't have this problem. Our biggest criticism was the lack of any information at all in the house, either about the surrounding area (there are some very worthwhile, if daunting, walks up the nearest mountain, which we discovered for ourselves) or even useful practical information, such as how the recycling should be divided amongst the colour-coded bins in the kitchen. Other visitors have complained about the distance from the nearest car park, and perhaps this should be explained a lot more clearly, but it is to be expected in traditional Greek villages which weren't designed for cars. Finally, we think the house ir rather overpriced; it was the most expensive accommodation we have booked in Corfu or Paxos, or for that matter, in village houses in Spain or France.

3.0− The apartment unfortunately has a serious damp problem. There is a constant smell of humidity, especially on the lower floor, and it seeps into everything – even your clothes and belongings end up smelling of it. The bathroom where the shower is located has a very strong, unpleasant odor, and if you forget to keep the door closed, the entire apartment quickly fills with it. It makes the atmosphere quite uncomfortable, and having to take a shower surrounded by that smell was not a pleasant experience at all. On top of that, the bed was uncomfortable, the coffee machine was broken, and the host was not very responsive to our messages. Accessibility is also an issue – if you have mobility concerns, reaching the property is not easy. One of the bedrooms doesn’t even have a window, and overall, the apartment looks much better in the photos than in reality. Directions to find the property could definitely be improved. Parking is another problem. The closest parking is on a steep hill, which makes carrying luggage extremely difficult. There is a second parking area that is a bit farther from the apartment but much more practical if you have suitcases – however, the host didn’t even mention this option.
Picturesque location with a lot of amenities in a welcoming village
9.0Picturesque location in a beautiful village close to Paleokastritsa. A lot of amenities and household equipment. Very nice terrace. Living room and kitchen were very comfortable. Flexible check-in.
− The house is at the tallest spot in the middle of the village. During the late night, water pressure dropped really low, no water in the sink in the upper floor. Not sure if it was our fault. The public parking is some 200m from the house, quite downhill. The closest place to park and unload luggage is not much closer.
