When we stumbled upon this accommodation, it was a bit disheartening to see that it had been listed for months with no reviews. So, we felt it was important to be the first to share our experience. Let's start with Marathia, the charming part of the island where this apartment is nestled. Our love affair with this place began a decade ago during our first visit. It's a hilly landscape adorned with lush olive groves, sparsely developed, and offers breathtaking bay views at every turn. You won't find souvenir shops or bars here, just two quaint tavernas. There's a beautiful pebble beach, Marathonisi Beach, with a steep yet picturesque unpaved footpath leading to it. It's an 8-minute walk from the parking area, and even my 68-year-old mother managed it without any issues, though we often drove the 550 meters from our apartment. The apartment is situated on a dead-end road with only a handful of villas nearby, ensuring minimal traffic. Your mornings will be greeted by the crowing of roosters, and the lullabies will be sung by cicadas at night. Below the apartment, there's a hidden gem of a small, unmarked, and unnamed pebble beach known only to the locals. We were fortunate to have it all to ourselves, a truly rare experience. What's more, you'll always find natural shade in the coves of this beach. I've attached a map of the footpath; it's just a short stroll away. To fully explore the area, having a car is essential. The nearest supermarkets are 3.5 kilometers away, and the road to reach them is hilly and winding. We'd recommend renting a car with a slightly more robust engine, perhaps a diesel car. Our Seat Mii was lovely, but occasionally, we wished for a bit more power.

− We opted for the first-floor apartment with one bedroom, and it was tastefully furnished, matching the photos accurately. The mattresses leaned toward the firmer side, which suited us fine. However, the view exceeded our wildest expectations. The photos simply don't do justice to the sheer beauty that surrounds you. It's a visual feast in every direction! Lush green slopes embrace the house from both sides, and in front of you unfolds a 180-degree panorama of the bay, with Marathonisi Island as the pièce de résistance. We couldn't get enough of it, trying to etch it into our memories forever. We appreciated that the terrace faced north, so the sun only graced it partially in the morning. The kitchen came equipped with most essentials, and the owners were genuinely pleasant, checking in on us a few times to ensure we had everything we needed. The coffee machine was of the dripping variety, and do note that the Wi-Fi didn't reach the bedroom. In conclusion, we wholeheartedly recommend this apartment to anyone seeking a peaceful countryside retreat, far removed from the noise and crowds of typical tourist destinations. We hope to return one day.
