Exceptional- cozy, comfy, elegant and romantic cottage retreat
10.0Location is fantastic- isolated little hamlet of GroB Schoritz is very quiet. There are fields and walking trails around and behind the house that also lead to the shore. There is a wonderful restaurant within walking distance (Convivo). Very peaceful. Easy driving distance to anywhere in Rugen and little grocery stores are close by to get supplies. Petra is a very welcoming host who provided us with a detailed description of the cottage and of things to do in the area. The house itself is a converted cottage with a thatched roof that had all the modern conveniences but was obviously lovingly restored in keeping with the character of the home. The fireplace was fantastic- lots of wood provided so we were able to use it for all of our stay. This heated the cottage, including the upstairs bedroom. There were wall heaters, too, if needed (including one in the bathroom) that made things cozy. The kitchen was simple but had everything needed (including a dishwasher!) for us to make breakfasts and nice dinners including English tableware and wonderful stemware including multiple types of sheer rimmed glasses to enjoy various types of wine. Bed was comfy and furnishings were simple but elegant. We made use of the candles provided during the long winter nights. Lots of antique lamps also set the mood.
− The street lamp in front of the bedroom window blazed all night long. Petra stated it would turn off around midnight but never did. There was a sheer curtain over this window which really didn't help the situation very much. A thicker curtain or other window treatment could easily remedy this situation. There was also no curtain in the living room covering the window adjacent to the door (although there were lovely window treatments for all of the other windows). This also could be easily remedied with a matching window treatment to allow for more privacy.
