A truly unique hotel in a stunning setting with attentive staff and exceptional views

10.0

This hotel has a lot of really great things going for it: - The island setting offers incredible views of Mount Fuji, Suruga Bay and the surrounding area, and you can walk the perimeter trail to see a complete 360-degree perspective of the area. There is also a steep climb to a shrine at the top of the island. - The hotel facility itself is beautifully designed with open and inviting public spaces as well as spacious guest rooms. Even the most basic rooms on the property are large with very comfortable furnishings and luxurious bathrooms - the best accommodations I had during my entire multi-week trip to Japan. The included breakfast buffet was excellent with fresh items sourced locally in a beautiful and peaceful terrace dining area overlooking the bay. - Hotel staff were extremely accommodating. I speak only basic Japanese but it was not an issue during my stay as I encountered multiple staff members with good conversational English skills and was able to use translation apps to communicate with the rest. Staff were happy to arrange boat travel back to the mainland during our stay to accommodate my party's plans and took special care to ensure that we knew about expected inclement weather, and even sent a member of staff with us to shore so they could call the boat to retrieve us when we were ready to return to the island. - An added bonus: admission to the Awashima Marine Park was free as a hotel guest. It's a smaller but enjoyable outfit with tropical fish aquariums, marine mammals, a building housing a variety of colorful frog terrariums, and more.

Honestly, it's really hard to find negatives about my stay. Outside of wishing I had more time at the hotel, my only regret is that I didn't opt to purchase the on-site dinner. After having the excellent (included!) breakfast the following morning, I wished I had paid the extra money for the dinner package in the hotel's restaurant instead of leaving the island for dinner.

Ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis

10.0

Is Awashima Hotel really a five-star hotel?
Yes. Its own classification data carries five stars; that rating, not a style label, is what puts a property in this collection.
